I got some new fleece the other day and it is cream with purple/pink little dots on. After having it in there for few hours I went to say hello to the pigs and I noticed McMacs nose looked a bit red. I was worried and looked him over, thinking he might have gotten a bite, but couldn't see any cuts or bleeding. I thought maybe he had rubbed some dye from the dots onto his nose.

Anyway this morning before college I found all these reddish brown spots and I couldn't tell if it was their droppings leaving marks or diluted blood. Anyway I got home and did a test where I had him sat on my lap on white kitchen towel waiting for him to pee.

Sure enough it came out pinkish. So will give the vets a ring tomorrow and hopefully he can be seen the same day. There isn't any grit in it so I don't think it could be stones.

Another problem is he stinks down there and it seems a bit messy. His poos are coming out well enough formed, although not quite perfect, and there isn't anything stuck as far as I can tell like impaction. I am wondering if the blood in his urine, pain, whatever could be effecting his stomach. Any ideas what that might be?

Best get him checked out, my Wilma had a very strong pungent odor she went off her food and was very down. She was diagnosed with a UTI and treated with Antibiotic's. Hopefully it's easily sorted keep us informed :).

I don't think he has gone off of his food, which is good. Just wondering how he might have gotten a possible UTI :/ Hopefully that is all it is and it can be sorted with antibiotics. Do cranberries help like with human UTI's?

You could try syringing him no added sugar cranberry juice as much as he will drink alongside the antibiotics. Ocean spray light is a popular brand on here. I would recommend diluting with water as it can be bitter tasting.

If you vet is willing to prescribe it, ask for Septrin as this is a better antibiotic for UTI's and isn't as harsh as baytril.

If your vet prescribes baytril, ask for a probiotic too to settle his tummy. Metacam is advisable too as it is a pain releaver xx

Poor McMac, best to get him checked out. Echo Claire above in getting Septrin if Possible. Hope all goes well at vets and McMac gets better soon.

Fingers crossed for McMac. Hopefully a course of antibiotics will help him out :)

Just a quick point - there doesn't have to be any signs of grit present in the urine for it to indicate a stone. My Benny had a bladder stone two years ago and the only sign that he had (before we x-rayed to confirm it) was persistent blood in his wee that didn't clear up after a few weeks of ABs. Sorry, I really don't mean to worry you, UTIs are far more common than bladder stones are are easily treated with the right antibiotic :) x

Our Fluffy suffers with UTIs and bloat - bless her, when she has a urine infection she absolutely stinks but a course of antibiotics and painkillers very quickly sort her out , usually we see an improvement within one or two doses. We put another smaller glass bottle with undiluted cranberry juice next to her water bottle and she quite happily drank it. Regarding probiotics we use droppings from one of our other pigs as a more natural solution.

Sorry I haven't replied, been busy at college. Took him to the vets and she gave him some anti inflamitories and AB and gave me some Baytril to take home. I think he has already improved after just a day of meds. She wants to see him back on Monday for a check up too.
