My male guinea pig has pink urine for the last day or two. He is already on Baytril (0.25ml twice a day) because he was recently neutered. He didnt have a big appetite after having surgery, so I had been giving him lots of fresh grass and dandelion leaves (he loves them and never turns them down). Could that make his urine pink? I've stopped giving the fresh grass and dandelions. If that was causing it, when should the pink urine stop? And if it's not from that, wouldn't it be odd he'd get a UTI while on antibiotics? Also, he is 9 months old. Thanks.

Oh, and his wounds are healing nicely and not bleeding. It's definitely his urine that's pink.

It is possible that he could get a UTI as Baytril is not the best antibiotic for a UTI so it would fit that a UTI could occur while he is on it. I would run it past your vet though as it may be due to inflammation from the surgery, I not sure though to be honest. He may also have some inflammation in his bladder.

I agree with Helen. Whether it is related to the op, or just an additional infection, you need to see your vet. Baytril is a good all round antibiotic, but it may not work on the bugs that are causing the infection. Septrin is probably a better bet for a UTI. The grass and dandelions shouldn't be causing a problem with urine colour.

Hi ,how old is he ?
are there any white powdery deposits on fleese or bedding ?

I would get him checked by your vet . If you take a urine sample there , they can check it for blood . Sometimes a urine patch on bedding can look discoloured because of oxidisation.
