Can anyone help please? My beloved Patch has pink urine today. He was neutered on 29th June and then formed an abcess in wound after a week and then had that removed surgically also as antibiotics were not working. For the past week he has not been on any antibiotics or painkillers. He is eating and drinking and popcorning happily though.
Any ideas? He has only eaten parsley and grass/clover today in addition to his normal pellets and hay.

Bloody urine could be an indicator for UTI (urinary trace infection).
My home test for infected urine is letting the piggy in question pee on some hay; if this goes bright yellow, I know I have to look out for an infection.

Urine samples you can get by sitting your piggy down on a plastic surface for half an hour and sucking up the urine with a syringe (keep in a freezerbag in fridge until you get to the vet). Most probably not every pee is red; and the red colour can be just oxidisation, but I would recommend a trip to the vets in any case.

All the best to poor Patch!

Thanks for that. He needs to go to the vets anyway as he has a bit of stitch still hanging out from his abcess operation. I have given him a dose of his antibiotics he did have from before which is 0.7ml of septrin, just in case. Not having much luck with the poor little guy! He was treated for ringworm for 30 days before I adopted him. Feel bad that if he had not have been neutered and then got the abcess, and I had got him a male friend instead this would not have happened.

Ah, but if he is going to live with a lady friend or two then it is worth it - he will certainly feel it was all worth it!

Urine colour can be affected by both oxidisation (in which case it comes out clear but turns a rusty colour when drying) and by diet. What have they had to eat over the last two days? Beetroot, carrots and red pepper frequently affect the urine colour of some pigs.

He has had carrots, so has Clara but she seems unaffected. Witnessed him squirt from under him two small amounts of yellowy clear liquid a minute ago, but could this just be him scenting? I am confused and worried.

I would recommend to let him pee on hay; then you have a better idea!

Today Patch has done normal wee colour and not a hint of pink. We were away a week abd then he had grass yesterday for the first time in a week, perhaps it was that? But he is fine today.

Just keep an eye on him; it may have just been coloured urine.

Hopefully. Don't want him to go through anymore pain and problems. Poor little guy. He is so fed up with having his lower end prodded and looked at that he has started to nip you when you hold him with his back against you and your fingers under his front paws. We had to syringe flush him with antiseptic liquid several times a day for a week from his abcess surgery. I think he is a bit annoyed with it all. He was so soft and gentle before and would not nip at all. I hope he settles down soon, so I can trust that he will not have my finger off!

Hope so, I love him to pieces. He used to really enjoy laying back in my arms relaxing. Perhaps he is annoyed with me for going on holiday for a week!? The night before we went I had him at the vets again as he was holding up a front poor and limping! I was so worried as we were going away. When I spoke to my mother the next day who they went to stay with, she said he was charging around with Clara popcorning and walking fine! I think he may have been trying to keep me home?! LOL
