Some of you may remember my post a little over a year ago, asking advice on a medical issue for Pinto. He had 5 years of a chronic URI, and reached a point December 2022 where I had a choice. Do a highly invasive surgery to remove infection in his sinuses, that may or may not work, and require daily nasal flushes. Or, do palliative care with antibiotics. Thanks to support from this group, I chose to do palliative care. I didn’t know how long he would have, and decided I would put him to sleep when he eventually worsened. I am so happy to say, that he lived a mostly normal, happy life for over a year more, until yesterday when we made the decision to put him to sleep.

A CT scan showed his infection had spread to at least one incisor, he had an abscess/tumor behind his eye, severe arthritis in his knees, worsening of his sinus condition, and bladder sludge. His food intake had lowered to where he’d only eat a little hay, some pellets, and carrots. He was urinating on himself frequently, and was also having bladder pain. Due to his decline, lack of non-invasive treatment options, increased pain, and poor prognosis, I decided it was his time, and not let his condition worsen where he would have even more pain.

Pinto made it to almost 6, which I am SO grateful for. I am so lucky to have spent that much time with him, especially with all his health issues.

Pinto was a very special pig. He had such a huge personality, and gave us so much joy. He loved his pellets, exploring, resting on my lap in the nook of my arm, zooming, his igloo and strawberry, and even road trips! He will always hold such a special place in my heart.

We will always love and remember you my little Pinto bean❤️
