Hi guys, I know I haven't been on here for AGES (long, stressful story!), but I thought I'd pop by, check in and ask for help (I don't mean to be using you for your knowledge, honest ;) )

Pip was neutered today, and although the op went well and he's back home again, he seems very quiet. I assume this is just because he's been through a major op for a little piggie and trips to the vets aren't always nice. He's quite a quiet piggie anyway, and always takes a while to settle after trips to the vet. I guess it's been a rough day as our vets is 30 minutes away and he's stayed there all day.

He's on vetbed, in the spare room away from the girls in the quiet. I have left him a bowl of his favourite veggies, water and a tube full of hay, but he's having none of it. He gave a few mutterings when I transfered him from his carry cage, and he sniffed and nibbled a bit of corn, but that was it really. ?

I know I need to be patient, and give him time, but I am a little worried he's not eating yet. The vets have been brilliant, and said pop him back if concerned, but I thought I'd check here first.

thanks in advance for your advice, I promise to be a better member from now on! ;D ;D ;D

He should start eating. Rather than checking to see him eat, maybe check for poops. If he isn't eating/in other words no poops within a few hours I would worry slightly. Get the Critical care, or science recovery, or mash up some pellets and syringe feed

i would do as starla said and try syringe feeding him especially some water. also get a hot water bottle and wrap it in a towel and let him lay on that as after surgery animals have trouble regulating their body temperture. he might also be in a bit of pain and doesn't want to move so perhaps offer some food by hand and see if that helps. when zoe had her surgery the vet gave us their emergency mobile number. so just keep warm offer food and syringe water and if not eating syringe some food too. sending hugs and healing vibes for pip-who is gorgeous in your avatar. and hello from me and the girls from oz. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Thanks for your help! :) Kept him warm and he had a bit of food last night. I left him with a bowl full of veggies and they'd all gone this morning. O0 O0 He's eating, pooping and peeing fine now, and running about his hutch, which he understandably didn't want to do yesterday! ;D

The only thing I have noticed is that where he didn't want to move yesterday, he has just sat in pee. Not the nicest of things, and has given him soggy bum fur! What is the best thing to wipe him clean with? I was thinking just warm soapy water, or baby wipes, but I don't want to irritate the wounds. I'm replacing his bedding lots, but wanted to give him a clean without having to wash him completely. :)

thanks again!

just wipe with an old damp flannel or towel, very very gently so as not to aggrevate the wound.
