got a bit bored at work so cut squares up and made a mock up of the herds c&c cage. It was never a problem space wise as its on a double bed so is 6ft x 4ft of space for them and I added a small second level.

The only issue was the second level was too low down to clean out without me getting back ache so I want to plan the cage better this time round.

The old pen was 24ft square approx, if I make it the same size as a 5x3 c&c that makes a base area of 20ft square, with a loft of 2x3 adding another 8ft square. Does this sound like a good amount of space for 4 piggies to over winter in? I know the ramp takes out some floor space, but the old design only a grid length by half a grid width was useless space, the pigs slept under the ramp and ran up and down, even settling on the ramp sometimes, this new design would not change the ramp as it will be the same one but this time I will be able to remove the correx from the top level and access the underneath - the best way I can think of this working and instead of panel pens on the front, the grids will be the front section.

I keep thinking of the best way to work the pen out for them, only got 2 months left before they will be coming in so need to start to clear the bed and set the pen up soon.

anyone?

I am no good at working out space, I can visualise and plan, but I want to make sure they are in a big enough space for them to stay in, basically they will have a slightly narrower pen but a bigger second floor.

Wow you must be really clever to write that! I was confused after the first sentence!
Sorry I can't help though! I have never had a c+c cage! And numbers confuse me!

After confusing two people at work and drawing diagrams on the white board I am happy that if I slim the width down on the herds pen, but add more of a second level then they will have more than enough space and most importantly more than the minimum recommended space for 4 pigs.

It was hilarious as I had to explain what a c&c is, the difference between a 6x2 and what I plan on doing a 5x3 with a 2x3 second level, convert it into cm and back to square footage - it made the time pass for a good hour :))

Just starting to clear the space in the room now to start to construct it, wont be happy till I can see it for real and know it works.

Oh and the top loft section correx will be lifted out each clean out so I can get underneath, it will hold the litter trays so I wont need to spot clean that section daily and they will more than likely sleep under there anyway, the loft will be feeding room only with the hay rack - got another under shelf tray from the range ready.

So who's gonna have spoiled pigglies? YOU ARE x)x)
Love the idea, and yes i can imagine it! (used to reading drawings-except for electrical ones UGH)
THey'll soon get used to the new layout and find spots they'll love to chillax in or under.... bet it will be near the ramp again tho....something about those ramps :)) just a good spot for a pigglie butt!

Thank you, they had a more than big enough space last time but with the boys in the room and knowing what didnt work last time I thought I would forward plan this pen set up this time round. And yes so spoilt, they deserve a nice big pen as they wont get grass time during the winter being too cold, and no floor time due to the dog. And they loved sleeping under the ramp last time, and under the small upstairs section so I know a larger sheltered area will be a huge hit.

I basically wanted to know yesterday at work if the size of the pen was bigger than the recommended 14sqft - which aparently someone told me was different to foot squared @) but going on the basis that they state a 6x2 grid pen as a basic guide, a 5x3 is bigger, plus the added on extra space up top.
