I'm just wondering... do you think I could let Willy meet one or two of my girls without bars if I don't turn away for a second, or is it just not worth the risk? (All of a sudden I feel I've forgotten all biology I ever studied and that they may get pregnant by holding paws...)

I think he walks a little odd (which is not surprising as he has spent his two year old life confined to a little box ) but as soon as I put him on the floor he just freezes...

I obviously couldn't keep Bo in too. I'm thinking about letting him and Martha hanging out in their regulat cage for the brief playtime (I'm thinking until it looks like he might start mounting).

or is it just a stupid idea? I guess it is... just asking about it means I don't feel safe about it...

I am beginning to wonder if your next new cage will be two storey with Bo and his ladies on one floor and a neutered Willy and his ladies on the other .... don't say it hasn't occured to you.:))

I wouldn't risk it and just stick with letting them rub noses through the bars. When is he going to the rescue? :)

Only if you are VERY sure that the girl in question is not in season or near it. personally, I would not risk it. Some sows can come into season spontaneously reacting to the needs of a desperate boar. There will be trouble as soon as you are putting her back with the others as she will be covered in Willy's testosterone laden pee, so you will end up having to give her a bath or Bo will go bonkers!

As hard as it is for Willy, it would be better not to upset him. He will bond much easier with a new friend if he didn't have the distraction of a girl before.

Thanks guys...

He is going on Friday (I'm taking all of them on the bus, so I've booked an extra seat :) )and will meet Ziggy, a brown agouti boar who will hopefully be the right man-friend for him :)

He's been alone for two years so what's four more days, right... it's an unecessary risk.

Cavia, I don't think so... He's adorable, but I need to travel with mine so much that I can't really have two groups... not at the moment anyway.

AWWW Bless him! Is the boar he's meeting about the same age?

I am thinking of Blake and his future, he's got through the bars right now too but he still looks lonely to me..

Friday isn't long at all!

I know your dilemma - we have to regulary go away for weekends and I can't expect my kind neighbours to look after two lots of piggies aaprt from the fact that I can only have one roaming lot and it wouldn't be fair on the other! Hopefully, you will find a job closer to home eventually and then... who knows? ;)

I know what you mean, but it's terrifying for me to think that i have two males and 3 females. That could potentially mean 9 to 15 more guineapigs I think that's terrifying for space and financial reasons.

I would not risk it.

This may be a really stupid question, but would Bo not get along with Willy during some playtime, or is Bo just likely to fight for his ladies?

I let my two baby boars have playtime with the females once, for a little while, while I sat in the run with them . . . it was fine, neither of the girls were in heat (and the boys didn't fight cos they were just babies) but if either boy got anywhere near a girl then I picked them up :))

I posted photos of them together on here and a lot of people said not to let them near each other cos it only takes a second. But to be honest, I'm sure you can watch closely and make sure no mounting happens. Just be very careful :)
