We've currently got two groups of sows living separately - a group of 3 and a pair. Does anyone have any views on whether it would be ok to let them play out in a run outdoors together even though they don't live together at night time? Any particular issues that there might be because they don't live together all the time?

Of the 5, there is only one we are certain of the age of - a 13 week old. She is one of the 3 living together and the other two with her are older than her a little bit. The pair are younger (and quite a bit smaller) - possibly around 11 weeks old.

We'd be able to start with short periods together and stay with them and watch them but ideally we'd like to be able to leave them out in the run outdoors for longer periods and we wouldn't be able to stay with them all the time.

Today we fashioned 2 separate outdoor runs next to each other and they all displayed quite a bit of interest in each other through the separating wire mesh and seemed happy enough.

@Wiebke Tagging in our expert on most things :) But Wiebke is especially knowledgeable in piggy behavior and bonding's

Sorry I can post more fully now at a keyboard - I wouldn't put them together as you have the chance upsetting the hierarchy of each group. Piggies have a hierarchy in their little herds A Top Pig and those underneath, by mixing your groups you may upset this and break bonds etc... Or possible fights may break out if too dominant piggies get together.

I will move your thread to Guinea Pig Chat were it will hopefully get more views and others opinions
