Hi, my piggie Dexter recently underwent hernia surgery and when quizzing the vet on what could have caused this, she said it could have happened if he has had a hard knock into something.

This got me thinking as I am so cautious and careful with my piggies and I was just wondering if the plastic bits that rise up on the plaza 160 to extend the cage could have caused this?

It's the only thing I can think of that he may have bashed into on a few occasions. My piggies are constantly chasing, running and popcorning over the plastic bits. Has anyone else got or had this cage in the past with any problems? Thanks.

I have the plaza cases and I think it’s very unlikely that this would have caused Dexters hernia. I place a noodle mat over the connecting bit just to make it more comfier. Hector and Kiki continually jump in and out if the actual cage, I’m always amazed how agile they actually are. I have heard of hernias as a complication of post neutering though

Yer could be due to his neuter in June. Don't think I'm silly but what is a noodle mat lol?

Sorry been stuck with flu! A Noodle mat is a knobbly bath mat. It could have happened as a result of a recent neuter, it is a rare complication, you have been very unlucky

Sorry I'm late to this party, but, I also have this cage, and have had no issues. I have old girls in it and touch wood haven't had any issues. I hope your piggie recovered well from surgery ❤️
