I have just been asked for advice about this poor piggy:

He was dumped at a pet shop in a carrier bag with another male piggy:

Luckily these 2 boys have found their way to a rabbit rescue where they are being cared for temporarily. They have been treated with Ivermectin drops.

Please can you advise whether there is anything else that can be done to make this little chap more comfortable. Not sure whether he can be bathed as some of the sores are open?

I have piggies myself but (luckily) have not had to deal with anything like this.

Thank you in advance for any help and advice.

Ouch poor little things that looks so sore. I would email Chrissie at Gorgeous Guineas.co.uk and see what she recommends. It looks like mites to me, and the drops are the best solution for that problem.

They should clear up soon, you just need something to stop that itching and to keep the open wounds clean. Bless them.

dumped in a carrier bag? that's disgusting. some people make me sick.

I hope he starts getting better soon. good luck helping him get there.

Thanks guys - Chrissie has just emailed me back so hopefully soon have this little chap back on track...

Awww, poor little thing. I would think it's probably a fungal infection. Chrissie knows her stuff so will point you in the right direction.

As has been said, ivermectin drops will clear up the mites. Email that photo to Chrissie at GG and she will recommend the best thing to help soothe. Fungal often goes hand in hand with mites.

I'm sure he will be feeling a lot better soon!

I dropped an email to chrissy at gorgeousguineas.com and she said lavender and myrrh (at her online store) are great for sores.
Hope this helps x

I agree with Louise, email chrissy, she's very knowledgable

Thank you everyone for your replies - as I said yesterday (in post 5), I did email Chrissie. She very kindly emailed back and I have passed the info on to Chloe who is looking after them at the moment.

OK just seen that they have been treated with ivermectin - so I've deleted my post. It looked like they were only being treated with lavender !
