The weather has been warming up a lot, so I urge you to please make sure your guinea pigs are out of direct sunlight and have plenty of wooden hideaways to keep cool. Please make sure your piggies’ hideys aren’t damaged or broken, it could save their lives. A friend of mine went away to visit their family for 2 nights and left their piggy in a conservatory, which was in direct sunlight. He had one wooden hidey that looked like a table or platform, but sadly one of the legs broke, meaning he had no shelter from the sun. He passed away this morning after overheating. Please look after your piggies this summer and keep them safe from the sun.

Thats horrible. I do think its more than likely the whole heat of the conservatory that killed the pig though. Unless a door was open from the living room to it.😣

Yeah, I’m so disappointed in the lack of thought. I just think it’s absolutely cruel.

Conservatories are basically large cars; they can become heat traps very quickly and are not fit to keep pets in unless they are climate controlled. They kill as surely as a leaving a pet in a car. :(

Not to mention that guinea pigs should not be kept as singles or left without fresh food and water for more than 24 hours and never left in direct sunlight or a heat trap patio/garden...

I’m so disappointed and upset with the complete lack of thought, they knew the weather was going to be hot and chose to do nothing about it. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened to their pets, and it was unbelievably cruel to let it happen again. Prior to this, the guinea pig had been left in the conservatory on the floor during the colder months with virtually nothing to keep warm in. I’m heartbroken for that poor piggy and I’m just disgusted by the lack of care :(

I fully agree with you! :mal:

Its like a nievity kind of cruel. No thought there what so ever. Unfortunately it takes a viticim of it to learn. Its like dog owners leaving dogs in a baking hot car without ventilation. I wouldnt think twice about kicking the window in. You are aloud to do it. Shame. So sad.

Edit, not the first time! They should be reported.

Honestly I should report them. They owned two tortoises and once again, kept them in the conservatory in the winter which was unbelievably stupid. One sadly passed away due to the cold. They let the other one roam freely around the garden during the summer, meaning it could easily escape or be attacked by another animal. I warned them that they needed to find it and bring it back inside before the colder months. They didn’t listen and the next summer they found an empty shell while gardening. Awful.
