We have quite a few newcomers on the forum again, who are most welcome to ask for support in all areas 'piggy'.

The forum members are trying their best to answer any post as quickly as possible depending on their own knowledge, especially in the health/illness section.

You would really help us (and ultimately your piggies) by mentioning the nature of your problem in your title instead of just crying for attention, which you will get in any case. Some experienced members are giving generally of their limited free time in specific areas but would be more effective if they can target their support to those places that profit most from their knowledgeable input.

I would also ask new members to put at least your country or county in your location. Medication, food names, housing/accessories links and rescues are different depending on whether you are based in Britain, on the Continent, in America, Australia or even further afield. It would make things easier if we can pitch suitable information right from the word go!
You can do this by going to User CP, edit your profile.

Thanks! We have a great, supportive community on here. It would be great if everybody could do their bit to keep it that way!

Really good point Wiebke, too often I see people needing help but it's difficult to advise as you can't see any location or anything!

Thanks Wiebke - this is something I think would help a lot.

If I'm stuck for time (eg checking out the forum before going to work in the morning) I often dont have time to open half of the new posts and if the titles vague they are often the ones I often miss :(

I also use a chameleon forum, and they have a "questionnaire" type thing that they ask people to fill out when asking for help, things like temperature, humidity, housing, feeding, vitamin schedules etc., which is stickied at the top of the health page. People then copy and paste the questions into their new thread, and answer them there.

Maybe something like this could be useful to gain the maximum amount of info? Obviously there'd be less to ask about guinea pigs than a reptile, but things like age, sex, spayed/neutered, cagemates, type of bedding, foods etc. may be beneficial, and if people could fill in something with this info when they ask for help initially, it could really help get the swift responses out there, without having to ask these questions, then wait for the OP to reply etc.

Just a thought!

May be this could be made a sticky so new members have more of a chance of seeing it? I used the word 'help' in one of my threads the other day but it wasn't piggy/animal related. It was about my rubbish broadband. I agree that a location would be very helpful. Just the country would be a start!

Agreed - I tend to jump onto these threads first then discover it's not what I thought rolleyes
Makes me a bit nervy mallethead
