PLEASE HELP,cystease s !

hi all,
i have been using cystease s for cats for one of my pigs for a year or so with pretty good results,seems to help his bladder problems,but bow cystease s by ceva has been discontinued and all i can seem to find is feliway cystease which has Hyaluronic Acid in it,both have N-acetyl Glucosamine in but I'm unsure if i can use the newer one ? does any one know where i can still buy cystease s? or if i can use feliway ?

I believe they have discontinued the plain cystease one. I have been using feliway cystease with the extra bits with no problems. The vet had previously given him cystaid which had the same ingredients. I can find no evidence online to suggest the new ingredients will cause any harm but please check with your vet if you aren't sure...

Jerrybelly on here uses cystease regularly too and I think had some more information on it.... maybe you could PM her?

I have tried the new cystease, but my piggies did't like the taste of it (unlike with the old one), so I have switched to just giving glucosamine.

hi,thanks,did you use the old cystease s by ceva? and did you try the feliway one ?
also what glucosamine are you using, sorry for all the questions x

He has one capsule every day.

Unlike Wiebke, I have found Angus prefers this one to the Cystaid he had before which smelt of chicken?!

Like Pebble says, just confirm with the vet that they are happy and dosage for your piggy.
 
The new contents of CYSTAID PLUS are :
Just remember CYSTAID PLUS and CYSTEASE are not the same and have different ingredients in addition to the glucosamine

Cystaid plus contains two additional ingredients
L-Theanine 25mg,
Quercetin Dihydrate 20mg
which Pebble found had some drug interactions with other meds.

The extra ingredients in CYSTEASE are hyaluronic acid and L-tryptophan neither of which I can find any adverse drug interactions for online however your vet will be able to confirm this
 
thanks all,
i did speak to my vet before who is very good but even though i told him i was using cystease s and he didnt tell me not too, he seemed to not want to give me confirmation thats its ok to use cat meds on a guinea pig which i thought was fair enough.

anyway after looking at many a web page i have decide against cystaid plus and will go with the feliway cystease once my cystease s by ceva has run out, i think i may have sourced some cystease s ,fingers crossed.x
 
ps pigg boy is on no other meds x
 
I am currently trialling vegetarian glucosamine tablets from the pharmacy; the piggies love the taste of them.
 
I use quite a high dose that is specific to my own pigs of 250mg a day so best to check with your vet. It is higher than the standard cystease dose. I have had no adverse affects from giving this dose but have been given professional advice before commencing.

My Jerry took a full capsule of Cystaid for 18 months before it was 'upgraded' to Cystaid Plus. He has been on a full capsule of this new version for the past few months. The only difference is that the additional additives have made the powder taste and smell different, and Jerry hates it (unlike the previous Cystaid, which he would at least tolerate).

I am now trialing him on Cystophan, following a discussion with my vet at Jerry's check-up yesterday. He has had one capsule so far and definitely seems to prefer it.
