My friends Guinea Pig is losing hair dramticly!
He eats/drinks
but he smells very bad
I don't know what it is please help!

Hello, your friends piggie will need to see a vet, hairloss can be down to a few things often Mites or Fungal. They will need to see a vet for correct diagnosis and medication.

It could be a number of things, a parasite infestation, fungal infection, nutritional deficiency. Is it possible to post pictures please and also let us know how old he is and his weight. Are you in the UK?

If you are worried, please encourage your friend to take him to the vets ASAP. Does your friend share your concerns?

When you say he smells, what type of smell is it?

My friend cannot afford a vet but he has been perfectly fine and I looked no signs of mites and her best friend bumblebee has nothing wrong they are caged together

Is there anyone who can help with vets fees? if his hair is falling out he needs medical attention. Th mites would not necessarily be visible, they can get mange mites which cannot be seen with the naked eye and flare up when a pig is run down.

He is really worried!
He is only a kid and his mom is not the richest person
I think his smell is kinda umm pee ish smell, and and it stays on your hands until you was them
I don't know what to do because she was fine and then it all of a sudden came upon her!
Could she be pregnant?

I might be able to help but avain vets are expensive here like a couple hundred
I am not in the uk I am in Canada

It's a female? I thought it was male. What country are you in? in the UK there is the PDSA who may be able to help, as they provide veterinary care for people who don't have much money. I think from what you have said you may be in the US though.

She really does need veterinary attention.

Has she been near a male if you think she may be pregnant?

We posted at the same time, I see you are in Canada.

If you could help that would be good as she really does need to be seen.

There is a chance she/he could be pregnant!
There are 2 but we don't know their sexes
They came from a pet store up here they never tell the truth
I am in canada

Is there any way I could tell if he/she(not sure of sex soo) is pregnant?

I am not sure that they get hairloss when pregnant, hopefully someone with more knowledge on that can help.

If you post a photo of her from above we should be able to see her shape, and a member experienced with pregnancy may be able to tell but ideally she should see a vet.

Ok! I want to thank-You for your help!
I am going to see him her tonight! My friends mom thinks she is die ing

You're welcome, though if she is dying then she needs to see a vet ASAP.

If the guinea pig is wet and smells of pee, it could be a Urinary tact infection / cystitis.

The guinea pig needs to see a vet ASAP even if your friends mum thinks she could be dying.

Sadly this could be a life or death situation :(

My other thought is renal failure as that could result in a smell of wee and hairloss, again an emergency situation and may mean making the kindest decision to let her go if so.

If it is cystitis, then that is treatable but the hairloss would be something else going on.

Thank-You!
I think the smell may have been that she was put into a small cage because we wanted to see if her buddie was the cause sadly she lost more hair but that is when she started to smell
