Hi guys, I really don’t know what’s up with my Rolo. Last week I was stroking him and he suddenly had a seizure. I picked him up, and he had another. I took him straight to the vet and they couldn’t find anything wrong with him. They’ve gave me more treatment in case he had mites.
I’ve just picked him up again tonight and within seconds he had another fit. I don’t know if it is a fit, but he suddenly goes all floppy and moves quick and then goes stiff and gets up and carries on as normal. He’s eating and drinking as normal too. Has anyone else experienced this? 😰 please help x

I called them this morning and they’ve told me to carry on with the mite treatment!
I don’t know how old he is.. I rescued him. When they examined him they said he looks around 2-3 years old! This is him tonight, the big Black and Tan one x x x

Rolo on the left x

So rolo, my eldest boar, is the one I rescued. I have no idea how old he is, neither does the vet. But every so often he seems to have a seizure. The vet has treated him for mange mites because I told her he was scratching his ear a lot and then turning onto his side, shaking his head crazily and then would go frozen. he has his second lot of treatment Saturday. After that, he seemed to be back to his normal self! But literally 2 minutes ago he’s had another ‘seizure’ ‘fit’ I don’t know what it is! Could this just be something neurological?
Once he’s had his seizure, he gets up as normal, eats (a lot as always) and loves to be stroked. BUT always seems to need to go for a wee straight away, or poo.
Has anyone else had this experience with a boar?
Help if possible :ple:

If your boy is having fits then he needs to see a vet as a matter of emergency.

I’ve just got on video EXACTLY what he does! PLEASE WATCH UNTIL THE END. :(

Please can someone who has had guinea pigs seizure let me send them a video of Rolo having a spasm/ seizure? I don’t know what it is! X x

I’ve already taken him, they say he’s fit and healthy! X

As far as I know, you can’t put video on this site.
Has your vet seen a video of it?

If you upload it to Youtube you can post the link to the Youtube video onto this thread! You're welcome to message it to me if you would like, but I don't know if I would be able to help and wouldn't want to misdiagnose. It might be worth showing the video to your vet?

I’m sure somewhere I’ve read mange can cause fiting in Guinea Pigs? Hoping he gets better soon

Personally, I would show the video to your vet so that they can see what he's actually doing when he's having a 'fit' - it might help them diagnose what the issue is :)

If you want to show the video you can upload it to YouTube and put the link on the site. It's not something I've saw myself but 2nd showing it to the vet.

If you upload the video to Youtube and then post the link in your original thread about Rolo having seizures then we can keep all the information together. @sport_billy could the threads be merged? I really do suggest taking him back to the vets.

I had a gerbil that did this same thing. It was seizures. After 1 minute he would snap out of it. Its common in gerbils. It never harmed him , you could tell when it was about to happen, his nose would twitch Then he would freeze, then run in circles, tail went stiff and then he would run into the wall, when it happened i put him back in his cage and he snapped out of it gradually

There is a thread about mange mites and fiting on this forum. Mites and Seizures Smudge5 30/11/16 hope this could shed light on this. Sorry don’t know how to paste link in?
