Hello, I saw this red smudge/pee on the floor from one of our guinea pigs, I don't know which one did it. Can anyone tell us what the possible causes of this are? I'm fearing it is bladder stones or UTI. We've fed them alfafa pellets and cabbages and carrot tops this week.

the first thing I would do is get your guinea pigs into separate carriers/bowls and wait for them to wee - you will then know which one is having problems ,

How To Collect A Urine Sample

Blood in urine can be for several reason so I advise your guinea is checked by a vet - so your Guinea Pig gets the right treatment

How old are your piggies?

I think I know which one since I saw the puddle below it when it released, it didn't squeak and there were no signs of pain, she still has shiny eyes and still becomes super excited for food.

Please have your piggy vet checked. This kind of intensely red coloured urine (porphyrines, not blood) is typical for the onset of a urine infection or cystitis. Symptoms are usually not consistent at the very onset, but the sooner you can start treatment, the less uncomfortable it is going to be for your piggy. At this early stage not all pees contain blood (which can present in surprising quantities in still clear pees) and not all pees will contain porphyrines.

Please follow our diet recommendations; including filtering water, the amount and quality of pellets you feed and the calcium content of the diet (which needs to be carefully balanced) to minimise the risk of long term problems.
Long Term Balanced General And Special Needs Guinea Pig Diets

If your guinea pigs are still living outdoors, please consider bringing them indoors or under cover for the winter. Guinea pigs don't deal well with major short term temperature swings, and we have had nights with temperatures coming close to frosts as well as warm days in very quick succession lately.

Thank you, at least it's not blood. Our piggies live indoors and they mostly only have hay and a few veggie leaves per day but their water is just tap water. We will keep observing for any changes, so far they are still as lively as ever.

:agr: Hope you manage to work out which one it is. Sending healing vibes.
