Please help - Hooting

Maisie started hooting tonight, what do I do? Have checked it out on YouTube and it sounds just like it. She's always been a bit prone to throwing herself down on the ground for a rest but other than that is very active and perky. Her appetite is fine too. Is it a trip to the emergency vets? Is there anything else I can do to help her?
 
Have you checked whether her hooting is in any way connected to rough breathing from any part of the respiratory system or is her breathing clear?
Pick her up and hold you ear to her chest, throat and nose.

Before you panic over heart trouble, you want to make sure she hasn't URI or an allergy.
 
Her breathing sounds absolutely fine, have listened to her lungs with a stethescope couldn't hear any cracking

I would keep her under observation for the moment and take her to be seen if it gets worse over the bank holiday.
 
She hasn't ever done it before but seems to be absolutely fine in herself. It has stopped now so I will take your advice and just keep a vigilant eye on her. Thank you :)
 
I know I just replied to you via PM Elle, but here's the reply for others info too. :)

As you'll have seen, hooting is often a symptom heart pigs display. But if a pig is hooting it doesn't necessarily mean there is a heart problem there; I do still believe that allergies are more common than is often recognised. You've checked the GL list of symptoms which is great, even better that she doesn't have any of them! Given that Maisie's cage was cleaned out earlier - and the pollens are really starting to hang around the air these last few days as well - I'd be inclined to suspect allergy at the moment.

If the hooting gets really persistent (i.e. it doesn't clear with a cough after, say, 15 minutes) then a one off dose - 0.2ml - Sudafed Expectorant tends to help. Always helped Gwen (even though she did have a heart problem) and it does help my other allergy pigs when they suffer the 'hooting' too.

Do keep an eye on her, but it doesn't sound likely to be anything to do with the heart at the moment.
