My Guniea pig Timmy has been through a lot,he is trying to heal from a stubborn abscess and now he is constipated. He is on critical care and isn't eating his veggies. How do I help him to poop? Oh I so tired of worrying about him. I love him so much but he has had sick for three months. I just got him off of critical care 3 days ago after 3 months and now he needs it again. This is just so hard, it's been one thing or another for so long. I just want him to feel better. Thank you for all advise and support I have received here. Not everyone understands the bond I have with my pig. Now I am worried about him being constipated any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is he eating hay and pellets at all? If he’s not eating I would start syringe feeding again. How long has he not had a poo? It takes 48 hours (if I remember correctly) for food to go through the system and come out the other end.

If he’s still not pooing in the next day or two I’d return to the vet. Sorry you’re having so much worry with him.

Thank you for your reply.I am back to feeding him critical care. He looks a little bloated. I just brought him to the vet yesterday. And 3 times the week before. He is on antibiotics for his abscess. And I think it is making him constipated. Oh my poor boy. Are all Guinea pigs this delicate health wise? It's really nice to hear from people who love their Guinea pig as much as I do. I have spent 760 Canadian in two weeks. All of my family and friends think I should just put him down. It's so hard, I love him so much. If anyone knows how to help constipation, I could really use the advice.

When you say constipated do you mean he’s impacted? Or just that he hasn’t pooed? If he appears a little bloated then get that checked out as well. It can be bad for them.

Does anyone know how to get your Guinea pig to pee and poop. He was just at the vet and we gave him antibiotics and now he is very bloated. I really don't know what to do. If anyone might know please tell me. It an emergency and I can't get to a vet until tomorrow. P,ease I am desperate and scared. Any ideas would be so helpful. I think he is in really bad shape. I feel so scared and sad.

So I assume he is on antibiotics for the abscess. The antibiotics upset gut bacteria and cause them to not want to eat. It is important that he is also given a probiotic to counteract this. He needs to be syringe fed very regularly, every few hours day and night if he isn’t eating for himself. Speak to your vet and also ask about getting a probiotic as well.
If he isn’t eating enough, he won’t be pooping.

I have merged your three threads. I appreciate that you were in panic mode when posting but having it all on one thread helps us all to see what has happened and what you have been told and it also helps you have all the information in one place.

Please bear in mind we are a UK based forum so when you were posting it was the middle of the night for us hence not many members being online.

I will find the bridging links and impaction one too for you. Keep syringing little and often to keep him going. Poop output shows what went in 1-2 days ago

Hi and welcome

Please take the time to read our bloating, emergency care and syringe feeding guides first, follow the tips re. support care at home and start support feeding asap. The emergency care guide contains tips on what you can do with what you have got at hand or easily available in a pinch
Guinea pigs don't suffer from constipation. Lack of poos generally means lack of food intake.
Getting the bloat down and keeping your alive has to be your priority.

Please see contact a vet asap for gut stimulations and anti-bloating medication.
