I was health checking my older guinea pig (now 2 years old) and I noticed a small lump/spot on his ear. He keeps cuddling up to me and I'm quite worried about him - is this an emergency? IMG_4024.webp

I'm quite new to guinea pigs and I don't actually know what an abscess looks like so if you could help that would be really helpful and reassuring

Hi! Take a deep breath! It is something that only needs observation at this stage. If it grows significantly and rather quickly larger, please have it seen at your convience during regular hours. As it stands, it is completely harmless. ;)

Thank you, I was really worried about it, I'll watch him closely for any changes. I hope it doesn't turn into anything worse

That really doesn’t look like anything to worry about unless it suddenly grows or changes. Piggies (like humans) can get all sorts of little lumps. Not all are abscesses. But it’s always good to ask. We are happy to offer reassurance where we can.

Most of the time it stays like that. I have had several piggies with one these little dots and they never came to anything in years of life. ;)
