Ginger was fine yesterday but today I found her lying in the corner. She won’t respond to noises or to me petting her (which she usually hates), and she barely moves. When she does, she sort of drags herself around in circles with her head tilted. I’m thinking of making pellet mash for her but I’m not sure how to feed it to her. I don’t want her to choke.

and I’m trying to convice my parents to take her to the vet but they’re hesitant because of the cost + they think there’s no point in taking her since she looks like she’s dying. I don’t know what to do

Poor Ginger, I am sorry she is unwell. Yes, she does need to see a vet. She may be in pain and need a pain killers. If she is starting the dying process, it is best to ask the vet to put her to sleep to give her and yourself a peaceful death. The vet will be able to tell you where she is at and give you advice about whether she can be fed or not. How old is she? Has she been unwell lately? Wishing you strength and comfort 🙏❤️

Hi and welcome

HUGS

I am very sorry that you are finding yourself in such a desperate situation. It sounds like she may have had a stroke or a severe neurological event.

Please have your piggy seen by a vet if at all possible; even if it is for euthanasia.

Here is our emergency care advice collection with all the relevant information in how you can support a very ill guinea pig: Emergency and Crisis Care as well as Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

When feeding a very ill piggy you are not sure whether they are still able to swallow, please do not give more than 0.1 ml at once and wait and see what happens. A piggy that is too weak to swallow or that fights the syringe well in excess of their serious state is sadly a dying piggy.

I wish you and very poorly one all the best. I hope that the various links in my post give you the necessary information so you can judge better where your piggy is at and what you can do for them at any stage. The most important thing is to keep her quiet and warm but not hot, with a chance to move away from any source of warmth if she becomes uncomfortable. This goes for both very ill and for dying piggies.
