My guinea pig is only roughly around 2 years old. Shes been looking really week for the past 4 days. Shes just been staying in her hidey house. Her cheek fur/fur in general look really puffed up and her face looks tired. Her eyes are also watery and i picked her up and put her near the water bottle and when she tried to lift her head to drink her body just looked shaky like she was struggling. Do you guys maybe know what this might be? I'm super worried and i would really like some help. She lives with another guinea pig who looks fine, is eating and coming out as usual. please help

Please make a vet appointment ASAP; your guinea pig is severely ill and will die if she doesn't get medical care.

Start syringe feeding and watering her asap as she is not doing this for herself anymore. her guts are going to slow down and then stop altogether if your guinea pig doesn't get any food in.

In an emergency, you get a syringe either from your vet or from a pharmacy, prep the tip as described in the guide to allow fibre to come through and give mushed up pellets, as shown in the guide. Take the time to read our guide. it is illustrated, and explains everything step-by-step for owners that have never done it before. You need to keep your guinea pig alive until you can see a vet, until the medication kicks in (which can take more than one day) and until your guinea pig is recovered enough to eat fully on its own again.

Please see a vet as a matter of urgency for a piggie to look ill she must be!

Hi just a quick update everyone- turns out she has gutstasis- in which her gut has slowed down/stopped working- so shes pretty bloated/dehydrated. The vet gave her some fuids (injected). I'm just going to start syringe feeding pellet mash and pedialyte so hopefully she does get better. Have any of you ever experienced this?

They also did a blood test on her and her sugar is waaaay up. Is there anything I can do and feed to keep it down. Also what are high protein foods that i can feed her, because the vet said it has dipped down probably ever since she's decreased her eating

I blitz porridge oats in a coffee grinder and mix that in with a the syringe food for added protein. It also helps make it more palatable

Hi everyone, unfortunately she passed away last night. Thank you to everyone who replied and contributed to this post, it really means a lot. xox, I hope everyone has a great week. I'm just going to have to see what I'm going to be doing with Mandy (My other guinea pig, who is currently doing fine and was her friend), I'm debating on whether I'll be searching for and getting her a new friend anytime soon
