My lil piggie ate lots of plastic and I'm really worried?
I had him out for floor time, and he somehow managed to get into the room next door. I went after him, and caught him just in time to see him eating plastic - you know the plastic that goes through a label to hold the price tag on clothes? He ate the whole thing, i just saw the pointed part disappearing. He eats so quickly. I am sitting here crying, surely this is going to kill him, he cant poo that out can he?

He just pushed past the partition I had up to keep him out of my bedroom so quickly. Please help.

I'm sorry I have no idea what to suggest apart from phoning an emergency Vet to ask advice. Fingers crossed for you both x

i'd take him to the vet hun. but i'd also make sure he eats plenty of hay to aid his digestion to help get the plastic bits out :{ x

thanks a lot guys.

I called the vet, she thinks he'll be fine. I cleaned all the poo's out of his cage, so i can keep an eye on his movements. if he stops pooping or eating then I've to take him in for pain relief and help - but at the moment she thinks he will have chewed it small enough to pass through ok. Thank god.

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer x

thats ok hon, its amazing, we all learn something every day i think. I have never come across this before lol

I will make sure the WHOLE house is hoovered next time I get him out to play. I had a huge division of boxes, I guess he is getting stronger now he's bigger and able to push my divisions out the way. Little tyke!

We def learn something every day, I am just so grateful to have this little community to count on :) x

Glad the Vet reassured you. That's a great idea to clean out his cage and monitor his output. Good luck with "Poopwatch"! x

Hard plastics like that are actually less dangerous to guinea pigs than soft plastics like cling-film or plastic bags.

Handbags and the doormat! Lol, I don't know how the taste doesn't disgust these little guys - especially as they are used to eating sweet peppers and basil etc :) crazy little pigs.

Spent the last hour lay down by their cage, both sound asleep and look ok. No poops yet.....why is it there are always too many poops until you go looking for them lol! x

enjoy poop watch ;) heehee. the things the piggys get up to! you have to have eys in the back of your head at times :p x

OMG i just saw your post! :...

Whee will have all paws crossed that he'll be A OK xoxoxoxoxoxo

BIG HUGS FOR YOU XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Oh noes! I too have only just caught up with this thread, hope your little one has pooped!

I went in to check on Diego just now, he started popcorning around and I counted 24 poops! WHAT A RELIEF! (Something I never imagined I'd say!).

Lets hope it continues this way I'll keep clearing them out just to make sure he keeps this up.

Thanks again to everyone for their kind words and help - it really means a lot x

Brilliant news!

I'd be interested to know how long their digestive systems usually take to clear things through (i.e. from chew to poo!), if anyone knows please. Can't imagine it's all that long but would be useful to know in situations like this.

Hope little Diego continues with his healthy poo count! :)

i find it amazing how many poos such small animals can do a day! haha! x

My pig has destroyed quite a bit of my stuff, and I owe my rents quite a lot of stuff! shes 3 and so far has:
chewed through the phone line, chewed through my printer cable, chewed the bottom off my slippers, chewed my shoe laces, pulled out the fibre from a mat, chewed all 4 corners of my laundry bag.. chewed the door and doorframe. shes biting the back of the sofa these days

But shes mellowed down now and is content to sit on her little bed when shes out rather than destroy stuff.. rolleyes

Hey guys!

Just thought I'd let you know my little Diego is fine :) poop's are still coming faster than I can pick them up! He's eating loads and still popcorn central whenever I go into his room. Phew!

I am now buying plastic sheeting to go down for floor time lol.

Seriously I don't know why they eat such strange things - chewing I understand but actually eating sofa's and plastic!? He got his own poop stuck in his nose last week, and this week eating plastic. So stressful!

x
