One of mine kept getting constipated, we took away the shop brought food and just gave him a loads of differnt vegtables E.g spinage, cucumber, tomato's but obviously keep the hay and that seemed to work withing 48hours.

But i would see a vet if it carrys on, only because i thought my rabbit was constipated last week but his stomach had stopped working and needed an injection and he is fine again now ... obviously I'm not syaing it is that as I'm not a vet but i would if it lasts much longer.

I'm sorry you're feeling poorly too Claire. :( Hope it's just a bug that'll be over quickly.

I don't know what to suggest for Buff. Poor boy. Do you have a follow up appointment for him at the vets?

Big hugs for both of you. x

Make sure that he has plenty to drink as well! Have you had a look whether he is impacted?

If you can, try and see your vet tomorrow. I am sorry for your own bad health - crises do always happen at the worst of times, don't they?

Here is a link from Peter Gurney's help pages that may answer your question. However, I am a bit worried with using it on a poorly piggy.

thanks he had a vet check up yesterday morning and every thing was looking good,,

he doesnt seems to be impacted i checked this last night..

i did see the peter gurney site about this and was wondering if i should give him this..

he seems very ill today,i do think he gut has stopped working poss or is consterpated,he is still one gut stimulants 3 times a day to try and kick start his gut into working..

i am worried about him and feel its now a fine line of keeping on trying or having him PTS i have tried everything with him but i feel he has just given up:0

Claire unless you check with the vet I wouldn't give liquid paraffin, I think Paul has said in the past the effect is not as much as you would think, and I just wouldn't overload Buff at the moment.

How much syringe food is he getting in him?

Hugs to you as well, really not a good time to have a tummy bug. :(

Sorry to hear you aren't well and that Buff isn't improving Claire. I have just posted on your original thread. Fingers crossed stuff starts going through again soon.

I hope he gets better, you are doing all you can so don't beat yourself up about it. good luck

well ive just got back from the vets with buff took him up as emergancy as the surgey didnt open until 4pm,he is passing wee and does seem very uncomfy inside so he has been given a highter doseage of gut stimulants 0.5ml 3 times a day but can go up to 1ml 3 times a day if needed,,he has also been given liquid parfin at a doseage of 0.5ml 2 or 3 times a day but the vets sez to play it by sight if he gets the runs to cut it down, she said start of at a smaller does and work up..

she got some poops out and they were round and flat but not hard :{

i just want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who as donated to guineawigs as it has all gone toward buffs operation as with out peoples generosity poor guinea pigs like buff would die a horrid life with out rescues and peoples kind generosity to help,a great big thank you to you all and a big thank you from buff for helping to give him a chancexoxoxoxoxoxoxxxx

thanks guys I'm feeling a lot better now, just going a bit grey with buff, but ive made my own pured veg guinea food today it consists of

lettuce,banana,tomato,bit of apple,cucumber,bit of cabbage,lots of hay,grass,dandelions,and biolapis..

all blended up into 5 oz of cool boiled water i blended it for 10 mins and buff loved it:))

i thought its a better way of getting some fibre into him and his vit C he will have around 4 feeds of this and 4 of his mushed pellets...

yeah I'm feeling fine now thanks,my little boy was poorly too had the same thing a tummy bug seems to be going aroundrolleyes..they didnt keep buff in we went to there other practice about 10 miles away from my house as there little practice didnt reopen until 4pm as they have many practices in staffordshire but there main one is in congelton where they do the surgerys on animals but i didnt want to wait until 5pm when my app was as i was very worried about him,but the vets was happy with his cut and that he was weeing normal,he has had 1ml now of liquid pariffin and still not had a poop but I'm hoping with all the blended veg he is having he will go over night...but dont want to speak too soon{:| but he was having his feed and also ate 1 left of lettuce@)

another thing i wanted to ask does he still need his mushed pellets with him having everything in the blended food ive made?

I'm glad you've found something Buff likes Claire! Also pleased to hear you and your little lad are feeling a bit better, tummy bugs are the pits!

I and sending pooing vibes down the internet connection, fingers crossed all that lovely fresh veg does the trick! I'm not really sure about the pellets, I guess if he is having veggies and hay(?) that is actually more like a natural diet than the dried food. I suppose you could always alternate one pellet feed then one fresh veggie one.

Hope you all have a good night, got everything crossed for this little guy.x)

I would either add Science Recovery, Critiacle Care or mushed up pellets to balance the food mix. only veg is NOT good with a tummy bug! Make sure that you add probiotic with veg and/or pellets to help his gut getting going again. Or even mush up poos from healthy piggies.

:)) it was me and my son who had the tummy bug :))not buff he cant go poops:))

i have added biolapis to the veg mix that buff is having i could also add some CC or recovery to the veg mix do you think or even mushed pellets..I'm just thinking if i add the lot then i know he is getting every thing that he needs,i have pleanty of healthy poops to go around from 30 guineasrolleyes:))once he is able to go poop on his own i will then cut down on some of the veg I'm thinking?/

Glad Buff is doing better :) xx

I know how you feel claire so stressful when a piggie is sick nevermind you and your son too rest well xx
