Hello everyone,
My 7-year-old guinea pig is suffering from some unknown disease.
At first her stomach shrank, and I thought it was just because of old age and her getting weaker. But after a few days, she started having trouble walking properly. Her hind legs (one is already amputated) began pulling close together, making it impossible for her to balance and walk. Now she is always curled to one side and can’t use her hind legs at all.
Also, the tips of her ears have become crusty (like potato chips), and her nails are falling out / breaking off on their own.
I lost another guinea pig (her daughter) a year ago with almost exactly the same symptoms. Unfortunately, the vets here aren’t experienced with exotic pets and haven’t been able to help.
If anyone knows what might be causing this condition or what kind of treatment could help, please let me know. I would really appreciate any advice.

I have no professional qualifications. Sending wishes for comfort though, poor girl 🙏❤️

I am very sorry. If this is not your first one, I suspect that it could be a genetic issue that could affect the spine? It is certainly not a common disease.

Are you weighing your guinea pigs and feeding them if they are losing weight? Guinea pigs cannot fast; they are prey animals and not predators like cats or dogs.
