Hi Everyone, newbie here
My daughter's two male guinea pigs seem off-colour, but one more the other. I really need to get them to a vet who is really good with guinea pigs as soon as possible. I live in Gloucester and need a vet not too far away, as I don't want to stress them too much with travelling. Can anyone recommend someone please, it would be much appreciated?

Hi, I don't know about Gloucester but I'm down the road in Ross-on-Wye and would recommend Simon Lyddon at Vine Tree Vets. He's always good with guineas (he completed his exotics certificates in 2013 and has seen mine a number of times).

There's a sit and wait surgery between 9-11 on a Saturday but it's worth ringing to check if he's in today before you go!

Someone else may be able to recommend someone closer to you, but if not, Simon has been good for mine .

Hope that helps and your piggies are feeling better soon :)

I think you should ring around your local surgeries and ask if the practice has a vet experienced with Guinea Pigs.

I presume u have tried the recommended vet locator on this site? I just typed in Gloucester and a few came up. Vale Vet Referals has been mentioned a few times and at least one of their vets is recommended @TAN . Hope u find somewhere

Hi @Alice Chick I used to live in Gloucestershire, and we took our guinea pigs to see Rachel Mowbray at Vale Vets near Dursley. She is absolutely excellent with piggies, and keeps them herself. However, it could be hard to get an appointment with her sometimes, as she had other commitments elsewhere, so quite often we saw other vets, who used to consult with Rachel if necessary. I wouldn't know how often she is at the surgery now, as this was a while ago.

It wouldn't be too bad to get to Vale Vets from Gloucester. We lived about 10 miles the other side, so had about a 45 minutes journey to get there, depending on traffic.

Also there is Jason Burgess at the Woods Vets in Quedgeley, which is nearer. We were very impressed with him also.

We have got a recommended UK vets locator at the top. Guinea pigs travel surprisingly well; I travel an hour from door to door on the train to see a specialist in another town with any case that surpasses my local general vets' ability - and that has included freshly operated, frail and elderly piggies. It has saved several of my piggies' lives over the years. If you do it regularly, they get used to it.

Hi Rachel Mowbray is Bumbles vet - she is still there - she works at the surgery Mondays and Wednesdays and at Pet rehab the rest of the week - it is hard to get an appointment with her but if you are within easy driving distance it may be possible to drop piggy off at the surgery before 10am on the Monday or Wednesday (sometimes she does a weekend ) and then she will take a look at piggy between operating - then she will ring you and you can pick piggy up later - her second in command Alison White is also brilliant and is the first opinion exotics vet - she knows her stuff too - and Alison will also confer with Rachel as Rachel is the piggy expert (she has kept her own for years and can spay females with her eyes shut ) - what seems to be the problem?
