Junior Guinea Pig
I weighed her on 15 May and she was 1080 grams, but now she weighs less than 900 grams. I didn't realise how serious her illness was until now. I just told my mother to start feeding her 60 millilitres of Oxbow Critical and to weigh her every day. If her weight stays the same, then everything is fine, but if it decreases, she should continue to be fed 60 millilitres, right? You feed critical care until you piggy starts to eat enough hay independently and consequently maintains her weight by herself. At that point she would normally start to refuse syringe feeds and instead maintains her weight by herself.
You cannot gauge hay intake by eye so your daily weight checks are the guide as to whether your piggy is eating enough.
If your piggy continues to lose weight then she is not eating enough and you must not stop syringe feeding.
