I hate that parents sometimes just don't understand how important pets are to their kids :(

Sounds like good news that he is ok anyway :) You're doing the right then by giving himr regular health checks, and maybe if you check his penis once a week and clean off any hair or hay, and maybe even give him a soak in a shallow dish of lukewarm water, with some salt added (sea salt if you have it, it's better than normal table salt). :) That might help a bit? :)

glad you got piggy sorted, i had a lad once that had a protruding willy, and it looked horrific and dragged everywhere, but he wasnt bothered by it at all, well in a pain way anyway, he may have been embarrassed but he didnt show it if he was! ;)

If id have read this earlier i would have taken you to the vets as i went through cheshire to take my oh's daughter home.

Incidentally, she has been cuddling my and my mums pigs all weekend and i just know she is going to go home and say mummy....can i have a guinea pig, and i really hope mummy says no, but.........:(

dont worry about the prongs at the end of the willy all boars have these it aids in fertility, its normal to have 2 prongs, it sounds like he had hay or hair around it, it will be worth applying vasiline for a day or two to keep it moist and help any soreness and redness to go down x

If you do need to get to a vet and your dad won't take you, can you call a taxi? I'm assuming you have the money yourself to pay the vet bill, and wouldn't be waiting for dad to pay it?

Also, Prophet, I'm not sure that calling 999 for this would be very well received - I know it our mind it would be a real emergency, but I suspect they wouldn't look on it as such.

Anyway, GuineaPigg, I'm glad he seems better - keep an eye on it, and like katiepops said, I wouldn't separate the boys. And if you do have to go to the vet, take them both along so Barney has his friend with him. I always did that.

I agree.

Prophet, let's not ask children on this forum to dial 999. The police would probably want to speak to the parents to warn them about their child wasting police time.

I can appreciate that me saying phoning 999 may not be perceived well or even sound an extreme measure, but i did also state its worth phoning and explaining the situation to them, they are able to give advice as well as actually doing something about it, i did also say to call the RSPCA or other similar organisation as they also have the answers that could aid anyone in a similar situation.

Please don't take my posts in a negative way, the poor girl was clearly upset about her pig, the same as anyone of us would be if we had heard that response from a parent, but the laws the law and letting the animal suffer is outright neglect by the parents, and honestly i can't tolerate the attitude it drives me mad!grrrr

I am very passionate about the way animals are treated, if i was closer i would have taken the pig to the vets and paid the bill of my own back even if there was nothing wrong just to make sure it was ok.

I've checked Barney this morning and everything seems pretty much back to normal, he has semi long hair so probably got it wrapped around his bits. Thanks everyone for being so helpful :)

There are plenty of non emergency numbers you can ring to speak to either the local police or the RSPCA, 999 should never be used unless it is a real emergency and there is no alternative, you wouldn't use it to call and "explain" any situation

Aww, I was worrying there for a bit, only because of you not being allowed to take Barney to the vet. I am so pleased :) that Barney's 'little fellow' is virtually back to normal. ;) It's awfully difficult when you rely on your parents (depending on your age) for things like this, especially when they probably don't have the same kind of feelings that you have for these little piggies. It must have been very difficult for you.

I'm glad Barney is eating and much better than he was. Well done to you for taking good care of him. xx

999 emergencies only

I work for the NHS emergency services and you should NOT call 999 under ANY circumstance unless its a life threatening emergency.Peoples perception of this can differ hence query calls, and if a child in an utter panic without an adults guidance to hand called 999 then thats acceptable.Always keep your local police help line number to hand and use that for all enqueries you have.
My children always had the local police number in their mobile phone
