Iv ejust come home to find Barney not weel. He is breathing really heavely and just wanting to lie down all the time. I though it was hiccups but I'm not sure and I'm really worried...can anyone help please...

I'm keeping him warm but his breathing is really fast and i dont know what to do

Please help soon Kat x
 
I agree - really sounds like he needs a good Vet urgently. Hope you can get him seen quickly as time really is of the essence when it comes to guinea pigs. Good luck x
 
If you can get to a vets then this would be adviseable. Ive never experienced this so cant offer any advice. Sending my best wishes. Please let us know how you get on..
 
You can usually find an emergency number when you phone up your vet.

It can well be heart trouble; but he needs to be seen asap!

A vet is your first call.


Don't wish to panic you but our pig finished up this way as bloat reached its final stages. When was the last time you saw him OK? Do his sides seem normal or is one side distended and balloon-like?
 
He was fine yesterday morning and yesterday night at about 5.45 i went out and was back at 8.30 and he was like that. His sides seem fine, last night he wanted to lay down alot but through the night and now he is lifting his head. He has pooped a normal amount over night but not eaten anything. I'm going to the vets with him now tho. Thank you everyone, will let you know x
 
Vet says he has a collapsed lung. Left him there on Oxygen but it doesnt look good. Before i went in to the vets i was okay but as soon as i got in i was a blubbering wreck. Going back now to see him again :( wish him luck x
 
You poor thing that must be dreadful for you and your little piggy.

I'm sorry he's not well, I hope the vet is able to get him on the right track. Fingers crossed. xx
 
So sorry to hear this: there was nothing more you could have done for him. He is at peace now. I am sorry for your loss.
 
I'm so sorry to hear that, as hard as it is sometimes it's just the kindest thing to do. You did your best and I'm sure he has had a wonderful life with you xx

So sorry for your loss, console yourself in the lovely life he had with you and that you did your best and what was kindest for him in the end

You obviously cared very much and did everything you could in his time of need - no piggy could ask for more. Take care x
