This morning while I was on my way to put back my piggys brother in his cage, I didn't notice that he was sleeping and I think I scared him really bad. He started running like crazy then he started wobbling his head around and making seizure-like moves. My dad suspects that he was already ill, but I could've noticed that. Now he's just lying around not doing anything. I hope he's not going to die. He's only 3 months old.
 
Sounds like he was popcorning. Which means he is very happy! :) The first time I saw it in my Sunshine I thought he was having a fit. No need to worry, you've a happy pig!

If you look on youtube for popcorning guinea pigs there will be some vids there to fit what you are saying!

I know he wasnt popcorning. This was a lot more intense. He didnt jump around, just ran circles. And when he stopped he looked like he was drunk, trying to regain balance, and wobbling his head around. I held him for a bit, to calm him down, then I noticed that he's having some kind of vibration waves. Like jerks. The only thing that I know is that the drunkness effect wasnt caused be his ear, because he's got no problem with them.
 
It is possible that your piggie could have had stroke - does any of the info on this page sound familiar?

Guineas can recover quite well from strokes, we have a piggie who was left with a head tilt after one and he has never had another one (it was down to stress before we got him) and has led a happy and relaxed normal life and reached the grand old age of 4 and is still going, so your piggie may pull through okay.
 
Now both of them are just lying on their beddings, not doing anything. And their penis area is a bit puffed up. Did I give them something that caused this?
 
hello I'm not sure what this is if affecting both piggies but you should get them to a GP vet or at least a good vet right away it sounds very worrying xxxxx
maybe they have been exposed to something poisonous or given a bad food?
 
could you take any photos or a video to show members
it's very hard to judge what could be wrong if you can't see it. have you looked up their symptoms to see if they could be suffering from anything specific?
 
This 'sounds' exactly like what happened to 2 of mine just 3 weeks ago. They have both been on Septrin (0.5ml twice a day) for 3 weeks and they are still not 100%. One in particular was waving her head around. I've got a video but this is after some treatment....it was much worse at the start.





Is it anything like this ? if so they need to see a vet asap. My piggys ears looked ok as well but the vet was 'assuming' that it could be an infection deep in the ear canal. Anyway with antibiotics they have both improved and I think they will be okay (fingers crossed).
 
Forgot to mention that I have had 2 pigs that have had strokes. With a stroke (well certainly with mine) there is a very telltale sign and that is that the eyes sort of shake like some has them in a jar and is shaking the jar furiously. They dart back and forth and spin. Its a very obvious sign for me. Also after a stroke there seemed (again for my pigs I must stress) to be almost complete collapse. If you suspect a stroke you should put them in a warm, dark and quiet room and leave them be for a few hours to try and let them recover (the vets cannot do anything really to help a stroke). I had to syringe feed mine to keeping everything in working order for at least a week. I have been very lucky though as both of mine recovered.
 
when matilda died the vet was pretty sure she'd had a stroke in the night. she was totally floppy when you picked her up, like a little rag doll, and her lips and ears were very pale. she looked... faded.

don't assume that this is what the problem is though; the worst thing you can do is panic and think it's the worst. as i said before no one on here can judge what it is just by what you've said. it sounds like it could be any number of things.
 
Its hard to say from just words on the screen what you described did sound like popcorning to me. I would take to the vet for further treatment. I do hope the pigs are ok.
 
Little guys got better. They eat, drink, but they cant lift their heads. Looks like they were poisoned after all. I don't know by what, but it doesn't matter until they're getting better.
 
hi i would definantly be worried because if you don't find out what it was it may happen again,i would take them to the vet you will have a better chance of a correct diagnosis x
 
Yep if you think they have eaten something they haven't then they should go to the vet for a proper check up.

Charcoal tablets are useful for any pig that has been poisoned mixed with water and syringed to the pig. Guineas cannot vomit so it will obviously come out the bottom end. This should be used straight away so the poison isn't absorbed by the stomach. Afterr 30 minutes you can syringe 2ml of liquid paraffin.

This info is from Peter Gurney he does say the longer the poison is in the system the less chance there is of correcting the situation.
 
I'm sorry I was busy the past few days. I couldn't bring them to a vet, because where I live we were right in the middle of a 5 day holiday when almost nobody works... unfortunetly. BUT! My piggies are perfectly healthy now. However the cause of their illness is still a mystery for me. Thanks for all your advice by the way. I think hand-feeding saved their lives. They ate and drank just like when they were healthy. The only bad thing was that they couldn't control their muscles properly, and that's why they couldn't lift their heads either. So thank for all your help fellow happy piggy owners! :)

I wonder if you live in a hot climate?
It may just be possible that both pigs were suffering from heat exhaustion.
 
Ah glad they are ok! Yeah could have been the heat. My lot have struggled these past few days so much so I haven't left them and just kept them as comfortable as I can!

Really pleased yours are doing well now! :)
