Mallow had her spay today; recovering well. But half hour ago she started making respiratory noise sounding very much like my fudge did when she had fluid on the lungs. She finally had a sneeze / splutter and stopped making the noise for a good few mins but now its geadually coming back, worse when sniffing. No
Obvious extra effort to breathe, colour is good n pink. Gradually eating more as the nights going on and just ate all of her usual bedtime veggies. Uploading video but its taking a while. @Wiebke @helen105281 sorry about the time!

Mallow has flares of congested nostrils due to narrowing from bad breeding but this usually causes a whistle and never as bad/ quick onset as this

Here is the splutter that cleared it but its building up again

On our way to emergency vet- I'm
Not happy with her breathing. £32 just to get there and back aswell :-(

Oh gosh, fingers firmly crossed for Mallow. I hope you can get some rest too x

Sending my good wishes!

I hope it goes all well! Take heart from the fact that she is eating increasingly more, which is the best gauge of her overall state - that is what you want to see at this early stage of her recovery.

Sorry I have only just seen this. I really hope she will be OK. I have heard of this before. I think some vets give a diuretic after the op if I remember right.

Hi everyone sorry for the delay, its just been chaos and feel like i havent stopped. I took mallow to the emergency vet at glasgow vet school to have her chest listened to- that was my main worry. Ofcourse she coughed n sputtered n made the noises in the 30 minute taxi on the way there.. But stopped at the vet! The vet gave her chest the all clear, and as i stood talking to one of the girls i ised to work with there, mallow started making the noise again so we shouted the vet over. She says it sounds upper airway and as her chest is clear, its either the nose or irritation in the throat from being tubed for ga. as she sounded increasingly congested with every breath until she spluttered again, she gave me som biosolvin to take away. Got home at 4am, she had another feed then up again at 7 for another, then 9 for another and for fudges meds/change hay tray/hoover beds etc.. Back to sleep then up for meds and more feeds. Heads banging- probably because i havent had a drink in like 18 hours! Mallow has only lost 20g since post op weigh 24 hours ago- shes had 60ml food in 24 hours too so guess she is needing it afterall. She is breathing clear this morning so biosolvin definately worked. Needed some metaclop as not alot of output: Still bright and now back living with poppet after a vet bed change. Now to get back to it!

Hi! It is normal that she doesn't poo a lot and often often not for hours for the first 1-2 days after an op and that the poos are on the funny side, as that reflects what has gone into her on the day of the op, not what she has been eating post-op. Please do not worry unless there is about 50g or more weight loss, especially from one day to another. At the moment, this amount of weight loss is perfectly acceptable and nothing whatsoever to worry about! As long as she is eating on her own, you have the reassurance that her guts ARE WORKING and that they will come right, given time.

Take a deep breath! Mallow is doing FINE for the big op she's had. :tu:

Help her by sending positive healing thoughts and give her churned up body time to settle down and start healing. Adjust the frequency of your feeds to the amount she is taking from you plus eating on her own. If you have access to fresh grass or fresh herbs, they tend to go down best post-op as appetisers. It sounds like you can get away with 3-4 support feeds during the day and one check/feed during the night.

And please make sure that you get your rest and your meals/drink! You are not helping anybody, least of all Mallow, by running yourself ragged. Post-op is very worrying, and you are a very observant and caring mum, but if you want to keep up your good care, you need to look after yourself as much as you do after a beloved piggy. It's the carer's dilemma. ;)

Mallow is lucky to have such a competent and adoring slave Adelle. Good to hear she is on the mend. Serious ops need serious after care and recovery. You must be shattered.

What a day... hope she gets better and better.
Also hoping that you can have a bit of rest if you haven't yet! x

I agree with the others.
You are doing a wonderful job with Mallow, and she is a very lucky little piggie indeed.

Thank you everyone single one of you for the words of support and @Wiebke for the detailed reassurance! I know shes been doing well but has needed a good bit of help eating, this is reducing slowly but still been having syringe feeds today, shes picking at food but not eating fully- oat hay is what shes eating most of. It was that breathing last night, i couldnt leave it till morning. I had the money there (although leaving me skint!) soni didnt want to make a bad choice snd regret it later.

I'm out at my mother in law to be's hen party and tia maria is going down a treat! Mallow had a good feed before i left and will feed her again when home for fudges meds at 1!
Thank you again xx

I hope that you can enjoy the party! Just hang in there. The first few days are the most difficult to get through, but Mallow - while not eating fully - has not lost her appetite completely.

You were right to sort out the breathing. I hope that you can catch up on sleep tonight and just get up once for a check and top-up. Perhaps you could try some warm pellet mash before you fo to bed for a bit more fibre and see whether that is tempting her?

Hope both piggie and slave get some well earned rest tonight and Mallow is fully on the mend tomorrow *hug*
