Hi guys,
My female piggy 'Spice' has been on and off her food the past couple of days. Yesterday morning was when she didnt take an interest in her food at all, she hasnt drank, and as far as i know hasnt pooped or weed for this long either. Last night about 9pm she began throwing up clesr liquid and still now to this point shes tensing and trying to throw up...
She's been to the vets already, he said its to do with her epilepsy. (I saw her having a small fit about 3/4 weeks ago for a few seconds). And that she's bringing up drool because of that, i havent actually seen her fit though this entire time shes been throwing up. So I'm really confused.
Shes not herself at all shes lying on her side and her eyes are half shut.
Can anyone help me? The vet has given me some paste to help her poo and some paste to help her gain weight as shes also lost 20% of her body weight since 4 weeks ago.
I'm incredibly worried, her and my other pigs are my world.

You really need to get to an emergency vet if your regular one is now closed. I don't want to scare you but I had a pig do the same and he didn't survive. It was an extreme case of bloat.

I adopted a pig who was found by a vet having seizures. They kept him in for a few days, giving him fluid by injection etc, maybe this is what your pig needs.

I don't know about epilepsy in guinea pigs but I would assume that she should be having mediation for it?

If she isn't eating or drinking then she needs to be handfed, but as she's having the swallowing issues then that needs to be dealt with immediately.

Good luck at the vet, please let us know how you get on.

I'm sorry she is so poorly. As Jaycey has said she needs the emergency vet. The only pig I have had do something similar had Pneumonia. I hope the vet can help.

She really does need the e vet. Where are you located we can help find a number for you.

That doesn't sound good. I would recomend you get your piggie to an emergency vet as soon as possible; this sounds really serious.

She sounds like she could be bloated, which can cause fluid regurgitation is there's a complete blockage of the digestive system.. She needs a vet ASAP!

Hi guys, sorry its been such a delayed reply !
Spice died not long after i sent this message, i cuddled her til the end. I knew itd probably be a case of bloat, which is what i tried to put forward to the vet when i saw him, but he seemed to be so sure that it was due to epilepsy because id seen her have a little fit a few werks before.
I'm not sure it was anything to do with epilepsy at all, i feel so guilty that i never knew how much pain she wouldve been in or guessed how ill she was. She was eating and pooping fine 24 hours before she passed :(
I have one boy and one girl left now, my girl is sister to my piggy that just died, so I'm now worried incase she frets without her! I'm keeping a very close eye!
Can anybody give me ay recomendations for specialist guinea pig vets near my area? As i dont want this kind of thing ever happening to my other two!
I live in cheshire.
Thank you for all your messages
Lorna

I'm so sorry you lost her :-( have you checked the recommended vet locator on the forum for future? You need to put in your postcode on the search x

Amazing! Thank you so so much! I will get my pigs registered to my closest one :)

I am so very sorry she past! For future reference it is good practice with tummy problems like this to
Collect poo samples over a 3 day period
Ask you vet for a air tight spesamin jar and collect a approx a Cople of teaspoons each day , then ask you
Vet to do a broad spectrum poo analysis.
Not a poo float as this will only show worm Particals , you need to ask for a "broad spectrum " poo analysis
This will give you vet a much better idea of what is going on and how to treat it
