Unfortunately, one of Meleri's congenital cataracts has gone bad and has caused a rather nasty infection/inflammation causing her eye to look very bloody inside as the cataract leaks proteins into the eye. At the best, it can be managed medically only to a degree but would require long term steroids and would come with no guarantee.
In view of her being only 3 years of age, we decided to opt for a removal operation - as I was expecting.
Millie has already lost sight in her eye which she won't regain but will do much better by being free from chronic irritation in her eye for the second half of her life.
Please keep your fingers crossed for her!
Thankfully, the other piggies I had booked in for a vet check do not need an operation. Begw's suspected stone has turned out to be a small urethral stone that Simon could manipulate straight out and 5 year old Llawen's new lump right on her ankle joint he recommended to leave be as it is not impeding movement but is a bit too close to his liking to the achilles tendon for a removal; it's really not a good location - even if it is just a harmless mass!
Together with another half-yearly check on Barri's chronic thickened, crampy gut and a new lot of his array of long term gut meds, it's been a rather expensive end-of-lockdown outing to the vet clinic car park instead of the supermarket or pet shop car parks for supplies pick up.
Talk about a change of scenery...
