Do you have a metacam syringe (it's got purple writing on? with a picture of a cat?) or a normal 1ml syringe?

If it's the metacam syringe, it's marked in kg graduations as it's dosed by bodyweight for cats, so just go down to the 2, that will be a 2kg dose.

Ahh ok, thats straightforward then ( have the metacam syringe )

Been quite a while since I've had to use metacam so couldn't remember!

Thanks for the update, been thinking about your little girl a lot today. Hope the marbocyl and metacam do the trick and help her feel better. Sending her lots of healing vibes

Thanks, she still seems bright and happy enough in herself, still chuttering away as she potters round and cleaning sookies eyes for her ( she's like mammy pig to her lol ). Just had her metacam with some cucumber and probiotics so hopefully that might relieve her if shes in any pain ( though she's not showing any signs so I'm hoping she's not )

Just thought I'd update you all. Athena is doing well, hasn't passed any more of that horrible gunk since Wednesday and is pretty much back to her normal self. The only thing that is worrying me is her weight, she's around 830g now and I just can't seem to get any weight on her, despite her still eating well. I'm even taking her out to give her extra now and giving them dry food daily rather than just a couple of days a week, anyone have any suggestions how I can get some weight on her? She has gradually been losing weight for a while now, but I've put this down to her age in the past.

I am so pleased she is doing well. Have you thought of trying oats to help her to gain weight?

I missed this first time round. Poor Athena. She's one of my forum faves. Much love to both of you.

I'm pleased to hear that she is doing better. I would also try some oats and possibly some barley rings. Barley rings can be soaked and added to syringe food as a top up if she won't try them whole. I have found that it takes a lot longer for them to put on weight after illness than when they lose it so it's early days yet. Although older pigs don't necessarily seem to regain all the weight.
xx

Just want to wish Athena well- poor thing, that photo made my stomach churn! :( I hope the antibiotics help quickly.

I have porridge oats, are these ok or is it a specific type of oat and do I need to soak them first or just give them dry?

Sweetcorns also on my list for my next shop

Any porridge oats are fine. I soak mine in boiled water and sometimes mash a banana in served warm. You can feed them dry too but mine prefer them soaked with water :)

Mine love corn on the cob too :)

Ooh I have some ripe bananas that I was gonna throw out ( never realised piggies could have banana! ) so think I'll make a banana oat combination and see how that goes down :)

Thanks for all the well wishes, I know I've been away for a while but I love that I can always come back for help, you're such lovely folk :)

p

yes, guinea pigs can have banana but don't feed too often though due to its high fibre content. It can make pigs constipated if they have too much. Mine have one banana between four of them.

you are always welcome here :)
