I just discovered that Poncho has a broken nail. It is torn about half way, and is hanging by a thread. It is not dripping blood, but I can see blood surrounding the nail. I am in a bad financial situation and can not take him to the vet right away:( He does not appear to be in pain. Should I clip it?, and if so how can I keep it clean before I can get it checked out?

I would clip off the loose bit and disinfect with saline solution, either sterile from the pharmacy or homemade by mixing 1 teaspoon of salt into 1 pint/500 ml of boiled, cooled water.

See a vet promptly if there are signs of an infection in the toe. The nail should hopefully grow back. Sometimes this can be a bit funny if the nail bed has been affected.
