A good friend recently adopted a lovely young boar as a companion for her recently bereved boar. They are very very calm and contented together.

However new young boar has got poo under his nails in rock hard lumps which warm water and gentle rubbing cannot shift. Apparantly he used to poo then scrape at the poo a habit learned from his elderly boar cagemate.

Any ideas would be most welcome.

Try careful filing or wait until it comes off on its own? Dried poos can be extremely hard to shift once they are stuck to the skin or nails.

That must be very uncomfortable for him poor boy. Don't really know what to suggest other than what @Wiebke has already said.

Just had a lightbulb moment! Are his nails clipped fairly short? This way the dried poops could grow out with the nail and eventually be clipped off.

Thank you both. Will pass on these ideas to my friend and her guinea pig loving son.
