I apparently am home to the land of misfit guinea pigs! Wailani my new pig I’ve had a week has strange small light colored poops and is not eating well. She is going to the vet in the morning. Anyone else experience this before? What was the outcome? I’m so worried for her and it makes it hard that I don’t know her all that well!

Let us know hat the vet says.... I would ask the vet for some a gut stimulant such as metachlopromide (emeprid) help keep the guts moving. What are they eating? Possibly start of gut statis, does she feel bloated at all?

At first I thought she did but it seemed to go away. I am so worried about stasis as that is what happened to my piggy I recently put to sleep :( she had an impaction and got stasis and then became septic.

Are the poops a good size and quantity and is the weight stable?

If necessary, top her up with syringe feed and water (as much as she will take) to help her guts stabilise. Switch to weighing once daily at the same time to keep an eye on the food intake. Please be aware that the poo output is running 1-2 days behind the food input.

See what the vet says; but I would not expect him to find something major. It is normal that you are somewhat hypersensitive at the moment. A gut stimulant may help. Is she eating enough hay?

Poops are very tiny and thin and very light in color. She didn’t eat her pellets til late in the day and hasn’t eaten much Hay yesterday or today and hasn’t eaten her veg either. It’s very hard to read her since I’m not even used to knowing what she likes and doesn’t! She has been a light Hay eater all week but the vet is thinking she was not used to having much Hay available.

Vet found nothing obviousy wrong but we are thinking she is maybe just stressed by moving, being separated from the other pigs and diet changes. Her temp is low and she has lost .3lbs! They are keeping her for the day for fluids, motility meds, and will also give her critical care if she continues to not eat. Hopefully she is feeling better later today :( please send prayers and good vibes!

Awww that's a shame. Have you tried using infacol or Gripe water? Kiwi has a bit of a sensitive tummy and when she's bloated I've used infacol and lightly tapped her tummy. You can hear the gasses pop in the tummy and hey presto the poo factory starts working again.

She hates gripe water, but I believe it's more natural than infacol.

Healing vibes coming your way! I know how you feel on of my pigs is getting over a bout of bloat and it was a very stressful time. Hopefully the vet will send you home with some gut stimulants to carry on with.
Fingers crossed. And the gripe water might help. I asked my vet about giving olive oil as I’d heard it helped to shift gas, she said to give it a go and it really helped my boy. But please ask your vet for advice!

Thanks everyone. A little drama in that they weren’t happy my fiancé picked Wailani up this evening (although I had forewarned them as I was working late and we need the money with all the vet bills!) they gave us critical care and cisapride to give her. She didn’t poop much at the vets and they said she was a totally different piggy this week versus last week when she had her exam. She has been very quiet and I guess today at the vet she was very jumpy. I will be calling them in the am to check in.

Update: her situation has not changed and Wailani is hospitalized again today :( they gave her pain meds and more meds for her digestion but she doesn’t seem to be improving at all :(

I am praying for you right now! I'm sure you will find out the issue. Maybe the inadequite hay consumption is the problem. Kudos for you for taking Wailani to the vet! Please let us know updates!

Get well for your Mum and your new friend Wailani. Velvet, Betsy, Meg, Christian, Dennis and Slave send lots of healing vibes! :hug:to you @WhinnyPig!

You may be right about the change unsettling her. If you take over the critical care & water syringing. I can't see things going badly, as there is nothing physically wrong. Cover one end of the cage so she feels safe & only pick her up to be fed & watered? Tell your hubby to be content with looking. Lol
It maybe that it will take a while for her to settle. Be patient you will be happy, that you waited.
Oh one other thing, is it possible 2 get different Timothy hays. Maybe she will like one of them.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, prayers, positive vibes and kind words. She is on cisapride pain meds and anti inflammatory meds now along with critical care. She just seems so depressed I will try covering half the cage see if that helps as she doesn’t seem to know what her house is. Vet said she has not had such a tough pig to read before. I don’t want to but I don’t know if it would be best to return her back to her pig family she was with? She just wasn’t getting good care that would be hard for me plus I’m very fond of her. Being a piggy slave can be so hard. I told my fiancé if she doesn’t come around I don’t know if I could have more pigs again with the exception of Winona :(

With all the love and care you are showing her I'm sure she'll come round. She is probably still getting used to her new life.

Well she started eating again yesterday! Poops have increased but are still not normal. I’m just happy she’s heading in the right direction!
