In my Guinea Pig's shed mainly! LOL
Well another question about poops, again..
Just wondering because I've always noticed a few of these around the shed and I've never thought about it much until now; I had a search on the web and on GPF and found diddly-sqaut! So I was just hoping that you guys could perhaps help to inform of what these are, and to any other owners who come across them :)

Okay, well, just a normal poop, but with a stripe of a honey colour down 1/5 of it (length ways). Sometimes when they've had beetroot, it's a deep red.
I was a bit confused aha, and btw they're not all like this.

They are all eating everything on offer - Excel hay 24/7, excel nuggets 24/7, fresh water 24/7, fresh veggies every morning and occasional treats.

Thank youuu :D x

Yep - Carson's "two-tone" poops are showing this and he has an, as yet, undiagnosed gut/sqweeaking when pooping issue and my vet is aware and has done ALL the tests (urine analysis, bladder flush, X ray etc)

Carson is currently on a veg-free diet with gut stimluants yet still his poops are "bi-cloloured". Me and the vet have no explanation for this phenomenon ....YET!

I will upload a piccie tomorrow.

Sorry can;t shed more light on this at the moment but at least you know you;re not alone...and not going mad!

Something i might add, though i dont have any explanation for this is. When i have in the past brought guinea pigs from pets at home, their little poops are very mid coloured brown. They are obviously fed the pets at home pellets and pets at home own hay. When ive got them home and changed them over to the excel diet and excel hay their poos have changed to the usual very dark brown. Not sure if anyone else has had this with changing diets?

I can't believe I'm talking about poo lol but I've noticed that too I used to feed meadow hay and muesli mix now I've changed to excel hay and nuggets and it's changed to really dark brown although I still see one or two with a light colour down the side :)

I was going to ask for a picture of one of Carsons famous two-tone poops but completely forgot, found a small one of Tangos (its been the only one out of gazillions though!) which had a thin lighter stripe down it.

His poo related squeaks/straining seemed to have really calmed down over the metacam/septrin course though. It was his last day on it yesterday so I'm phoning Ann later to see what she advises.

In that time I also switched them onto Excel nuggets which may have helped too but I've seen no change in poo colour/consistency since the switch to add that to the debate!

Hmm.. well I haven't heard any of them squeak (like in pain or anything) when they do poop, and I haven't yet to figure out which pig it is.. or perhaps it could be more than one? They aren't doing these poops all the time, just every so often.
They all seem 100% within themselves, and are all eating what I provide.. so I don't know. Perhaps it is just a anomaly of poop that sometimes occurs? Haha, hope so.. and that it means nothing!

Thanks everyone for your input, but if any of you have any more advice of this problem - do drop a comment! :)

Difficult to get a good piccie but here you are - Carson's two tone poops. The one on the far left is "fresh" so not so obvious - the other ones have dried out a bit and are more obvious.

Carson is on a hay and Wagg meusli diet - no veggies allowed. His poops are two tone all the time however when Maple and Willow had urinary/gut problems their poops had a two-tone streak until their guts started working again properly.

Re darker colour - I have found that spinach, timothy hay, brassicas can darken the colour and my 2 pigs on a veggie-free diet have much lighter poos than the rest of them.

I would just keep keep an eye on the two-tone phenomenon just in case it could be an early warning of something going on - are your boys neutered or intact?

Thank you for the piccies, Mr T's didn't really look like that so I'll assume it was an anomaly!

Mine are sows.. but it is strange as they aren't all like that... just an odd few.
But yep, that is what they look like! Hmmm.. What are any of the symptoms that yours have had about that gut *?

poop

Next time you go the loo maybe over a few days just check your own poop , it varies based on diet. Us humans even have a bristol stool chart used for patient care. Guinea poop like ours can differ but it needs to be assessed in conjunction with your guinea pigs general condition hence my advice of regular health checks. I have 27 of my own piggies they all have different size and curve poops and yes colour can differ and whats normal for greg may not be for peaches. So dont worry about occasional stripy poop judge it in context with the general condition of how your piggie is.

Okay, thank you - that helped a lot. :)
I feel less worried now aha.

Just a quick question though, should you be concerned if every poop had a stripe down it, but the pig seemed okay overall?
