Hi all

Sorry - strange question.

With the odd spell of good weather recently i've been letting Henry and Chips play on the grass, and they've been chomping away merrily.

But today when i was moving the run a bit I have noticed that a big pile of poops that must be 2 weeks old have a few small fly's on them, and on closer inspection have small white dots all over them.

Got me to thinking, is it safe to put the run back on the same section of grass when this has happened? I don't what it is but they've gone 'bad' in some way.

Anyone come across this? I'm can't hoover up the lawn... and its only small... mallethead

Very common. It is natures way of degrading waste products. You may find they are covered by a very thin white film, this is fungal growth. Just move the run slightly each time, this will avoid the "recycling area" and give the grass time to recover.
You could put a piece of newspaper or cardboard in one corner of the run, the pigs may decide to use that as a toilet area , which is then easily cleaned away.

Hi

Yes I had thought it could be some fungus. It did look like a rotting mushroom!

Unfortunately, due to lawn size, and rate of poo's from the pigs, I haven't much choice but to re-use bits.

Worried that this will cause some harm ?
