Well it's about 5weeks since Boris (3 1/2yr old ) was at the vet for his very protruding eye, looked like it would 'pop'. Well he had Baytril, eye cream and drops...he seemed great. Then I noticed Thursday night that his eye didn't look very good and he was breathing heavily. So off we went to the vets yesterday. The vet noticed that Boris's eye has some white liquid coming out...so she said it maybe a absess and not a tumour...as the white liquid was the pus of the infection.....yuk. So may Boris is on medication again. He is still eating but lost alot of weight.......can I give him anything to boost his weight!

Sorry to hear about his eye - sounds nasty. I so hope he gets better soon.

As for fattening up, dried pea flakes will fatten up as will corn on the cob.

Good luck and keep us posted about poor Boris.

Gaile, sorry to see that Boris is in trouble, yet again. He certainly knows how to cause you problems and worry.
I would recommend to continue with his normal, balanced diet with, maybe, additional Vit C.
Have you given him probiotics? As others will agree, Baytril can be rather "harsh" on the digestive system and knock out the "good" bacteria. He may have also an internal fungal problem which is reducing the abilty of the gut to absorb food. This could explain why he is eating normally but his weight is falling.

vet said that if Baytril doesn't work then we can try another antibiotic ( just see it on another thread) Zithromax

Good to hear the vet is considering the use of Zithromax. Not come across it myself, but from what I hear it is a good drug, especially with abscesses.

Critical Care can help with weight gain, yes, as can extra dry food (if Boris is actually interested in eating it). Don't give too much of the Critical Care though; you want to encourage weight gain but not discourage him from eating his normal hard foods.

Was an anti-inflammatory prescribed when the eye drops/cream and Baytril was given?

the dried pea flakes and corn on the cob suggestion was a really good one for fattening him up and he'll love them :)

Keep us updated on how he's doing
xx

Boris had eye cream, drops called metcam and baytril

Treatment sounds right, the Metacam is the anti-inflammatory.

I hope he improves very soon, will keep thinking of you and him.
