Am getting quite upset by the number of boars needing homes - in rescue, on the Free ads, everywhere!

I know if you're keeping lots of pigs, it tends to be sows because they can live in groups - but I don't understand why someone who just wants a pair for pets would rather have sows than boars. It seems such a shame. Rescues are full of them!

I've got boars and sows - and I love them all - but the boars are such characters! What can we do to make people see that they need homes too?

:)

I'm a boar shipper. I love them! I have no sons so they are the next best thing! I love my girls of course but in a different way. The boys are my babes while the girls are my mates!...lol I know I am crazy! 98)

It's heartbreaking to see so many boars and pigs in general needing homes. I am beginning to think we are overrun!

I honestly had no idea how many pigs needing home there were. And most of them do seem to be boars.

I've got (counting on my fingers....! ::)) 7 boars of my own and 2 visitors, and 7 sows. I love them all and they've only got their own characters but the boys are just different - I feel the same with my dogs! Bitches are easier but dogs - well, they're dogs! Sometimes a handful but I love them.

:smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Campaign for Boars needed!

I adore boars - I just love them. Goodness knows what I will do when I eventually have a good look at this lot we are rescuing. From the 3 min glimpse in the hutch I saw every breed, every colour. Gonna be some beauties.

Graham sends me most of his naughty adolescent boys to tame up - once tame - they are a delight.

We have 5 boys and no sows - originally because my brother who sometimes stays at ours is horrendously allergic to female furries! We also have 2 male bunnies and an elderly hammie called Gus - feel a bit outnumbered but love my boys to bits! They are characters!

When my boys were young I thought they would never be tame - really wild and crazy. But now they're older (still less than a year) they're just lovely little personalities and really chilled out.

The younger two here on holiday - now, they're a different matter! Wild and fearless, they're more than a handful! But I think they'll be lovely pigs when they grow up a bit :smitten:

I thought that with Sunshine, he was such a wriggler, now he is so tame. My other 2 are like that too but Twinkle, lol he is manic! I should write a story about him, the naughty Guinea Pig! Actually I think he is a dog indisguise! :D

LOL Helen, I still can't get over her whiskers! Emily wants to call her Rainbow but not sure she suits it! :D So it is Fifi for now! :)

i don't know why but i have always had females and they are beautiful and have characters of their own too. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: there are not many piggies here in south australia needing homes. so we're not so over run as the UK seems to be. for some reason i just think girls are easier and more cuddlier. thats just me. :smitten: even if they all cuddle of to hubby :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: but i love all piggies but females are just to my liking. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

We only have boars and I'm not sure now if we will take on females, as boys are so lovable and funny and affectionate.

Go Boars! :smitten: :smitten:

I think it depends on your cicumstances, if you have space to seperate etc. Sows were my first choice but seeing Sunshine I couldn't refuse. :D

my first piggies were boars and were lovely, and i have bertie now, i do have more sows, but thats just a coincedence, i love them all the same!! i love boars just as much as sows :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* i think people are put off because people are always saying that boars always fight, which isn't true, some live together fine :smitten:

Yep Izzy its all about the right pairing. I think (hope) I've got the right pairing with Pudsey and Eccles. Sunshine and Twinkle were both dominant I knew from the start really but hoped one would give in! They are both stubborn! :smitten: Cuzzy was dominant as well he would have gone well with Eccles who is laid back.

Maybe if you have 2 submissive boars you can introduce a third but I don't so I can't...lol

I talk to my boars like they are babies, i don't do that with the girls as they are more lady like! I'm Piggin Mental! :D

i love boars! i prefer them to sows. i would have a house full of boars if i could...(oh wait, we already do :o)

i love hteir characters, and they are so loving and so funny too :smitten:

i never really thought about having girlies...i just went straight for boars. the two i've got now have stopped fighting over cucumber but both have white chins which are now slightly green! ::) ::) i wish i could rescue more! am glad i got my new 2 as a rescue pair and not from a pet store...

i have two boars and they are lussssssh ::)
i Have found boys are more tame then sows they like to be handled more. :tickedoff:
But i suppose people want sows cuz supposly they get along better togeather.
Anyway fudge and mudge say hi :P ;D

am starting to worry if my boys will hit maturity and suddenly not get on :embarassed: is it likely that brothers will start fighting?

How are they now Lou? I think you can tell from the start with some boars if they are going to be bossy. I was unlucky with 2 boss pigs but if 1 gives in then hopefully it will stay that way. I also have Sows and my 2 hormonal boars go mad when they can smell the girlies! I'm sure they will be fine. :)

at the moment they are cuddled up together in the pigloo...they keep washing each others faces and they seem ok...only a little bit of rumbling when its food time!

Aww adorable, mine never went in an igloo together! :smitten:

when they were outside earlier a dog started barking...and they started cuddling each other...i guess they just feel safer when the other is around.

My boar is deff more tame then my sow! He loves being stroked and cuddled where she wants of hopping and popping everywhere ;D

Both such characters but think my boar has me under his paw as he was my first, i have about 6 parsleys plants for him as he luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuvvvvvvvvvvv's it! ;D

i have 3 sows and no boars :'( i want a pew boar though :smitten:

I made the mistake of going into P@H on my was past, as I'd seen talk on here about their adoption section and wanted to see if my local store had one - it has. There's only one guinea, a pink eyed white crested called Mouse. On his sign it said people didn't want him because he's white - but on the back (on their notes) it said he'd been there too long and had red eyes so people pass him by.

What annoyed me was that in the normal pens were a new group of very young pigs, one of them also a PEW - I thought probably from the same breeder.

There was also a 'vicious' rabbit, who apparently bites, which they had named Jaws! I'd have thought he'd have more chance of a home if he was called Cuddles or something!

I also picked up a leaflet about the adoption bit and it does say they support charities - but I'm a bit cynical and wonder how much of the 'donation' does go to charity.

Anyway - all the animals in the adoption section were male and either 'vicious' or fighting and had to be separated.

My two new boys are inside as I type for some floor time - def. getting braver, they are! :smitten:

i have a big soft spot for my boars have one pair of boys

11 out of 23!
