cuddles

Gemma had an abcess that infected her lymph node on her face and got very large.we are treating it with vibra vet which is working but as the abcess was in her lymph node it would not drain and has left a giant necrotic mass.this has burst and the vet had to cut away all the dead tissue.she is much better but it is awfull like half her face has fallen off.she is happy within herself and still eats and deinks normally and we are happy with her progre

she is so brilliant to treat and so calm.my vet adores her.I always apologise to her with vege treats after cleaning it with saline and micosorb. She is such a wonderfull little girl

Bless her, she is very brave. Isn't it a shame that animals have to suffer these things. I hope she gets well again very soon. You're doing a fantastic job :-)

Poor little love, I work at a vets and that is about the worst I have seen.

oh my goodness,i'm so sorry you're both going through all this. get well soon gemma! its great that shes got such a great mom in you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thats some size abscess, poor mite. I am glad she is on the mend, send her my love.

Emma x

oh wow! it looks awful, I'm glad she is eating and drinking, that's a good sign. Abcess's are awful. My friends pig had an abcess and was pts, thankfully your piggy's was not as bad :)
Hope she get's better real fast, wishing her luck. :D

aww Jess poor little Gemma. Sending her hugs and kisses and hope she gets better soon xx

thanks everyone. It has started to heal now that all of the infection has seeped out.The vet says that she must have had a severely lowered immune system to have had such a violent infection. She has only got 3 doses of vibra vet left now and i am cleaning it 3 times a day.mMy worry is the amount of dead tissue that is present as ths will need to eventually slough away and it will take ages to heal

Bless her heart, how awful for her! I hope she feels better soon xx:rose

awww Jess that is nasty! Glad she is on the mend now. Hope she gets better soon xx

Sending hugs and xoxo's to you both xx

Thankyou to everyone.good news the skin has started to grow back on her cheek and she can now eat hard pellets (rather than soaked).the hole at the back which is her actuall lymph node is starting to get smaller also so fingers crossed

.I have gemma back out in the grass run today and she is much happier. She even let rip with a bout of popcorns! her face is much better and the hole has healed up and the skin patch is half the size in the original picture

As a matter of interest what are you using to dress it? or is it left open? trying to rattle mybrain as to how to deslough a wound! its been a while! LOL

sorry was trying to adda new pic of it healing nicely but it was not working from my computer.i have it open.it is a slow process as it was soooo deep and so bad! i have it dressed it with animal intex and vetedine which is medicated iodine wash.once it had softened she had to have the hardened dead tissue cut away bythe vet (pic one and two) she has been on vibravet and pain killers all this time and it is now left open to heal now all the puss and dead material has gone
