georgie came from a preloved add, he was offered for free and i dont think the woman cared who had him, just as long as he was gone:(. As i dont drive a friend of mine agreed to go and collect him for me and then bring him over to me, once she'd picked him up she called me to say that he was very thin and his hair on his back was very short ( he s a peruvian ), the woman told her that he had been in with a girl and she picked on him and that is why his coat was short, she was also told that he didn't eat very much and thats why he was so thin, my friend is new to piggies and even she knew there was a problem with his weight, you can feel every bone in his bodygrrrr. Apart from being thin he also has flakey skin, overgrown nails, very sore feet and a dental problem, he only has 1 front, bottom tooth, the top ones look ok but obviously i cant see the back ones so dont know what there like. He keeps going to his food dish but he tends to scatter, rather than eat his food:(. Ive weighed georgie and he only weighs 541 grams and he s supposed to be 18 months old:(. He s a lovely natured little guy and since being with me he s had a bath, been treated for mites, had his nails clipped and perfect paws ointment applied to his feet, were off to the vets on monday to see what they say about his teeth, in the meantime I'm spoon feeding him mashed pellets, ive liquidized his veg which he is taking from a spoon also, and I'm syringing his water into him, hopefully the vet will be able to sort him out as he is still very interested in food and is quite active.
I am also going to report the woman as after a short conversation it turns out that she is a breeder, and obviously not a very good one.

My best wishes for poor Georgie!

Good on you for reporting that woman - people who can't be bothered to care for their pets and foist obviously ill ones on unsuspecting people shouldn't be allowed to have them!

All I can say is thank goodness he is in such good hands now! Best of luck with him, do keep us updated on his progress.

i am the 'friend' who collected georgie. he was with us for about 5 days, and as petcrazy said, i have only had piggies for the last 6 months, but he was a sorry sight, but is such a lovely little guy.

Wheni went to pick him up, the lady told me he didn't like being held, which was obvious when i picked him up, but as each day went by, he has become more and more trust worthy, and really hope he can be sorted out by the vet.

well done hun for taking him in xx

If he is eighteen months old, at that weight he should be dead. 541gm is what you would expect of a pig about four months old.

that is the age she gave, i know he s not a baby as his nails needed to be trimmed, the nails on his front feet have started to curl to the side, he maynot be 18 months old but he is definately not 4 months old either. You have to feel him to believe how skinny he is as being a peru you cant tell just by looking at him, you really can feel every bone in his body, i weighed him twice to be sure of his weight and it was the same both times, i can only say what i see infront of me and i can only go on information that I'm given.

Agreed, the nails are those of an older pig, at least 12 months old. He is lucky to be alive. There is a minimum weight, which varies from pig to pig, below which there is no chance of recovery. Fingers crossed for him.

georgie has now lost the other bottom tooth, you can see the remaining tooth in the gum so I'm wandering wether he has been dropped or had a fall and his teeth have been damaged :(

I am keeping my fingers crossed for the poor, poor boy and hope that he can pull through!

Also have my fingers crossed for Georgie - hope he gets better bless him.

update on georgie
sorry its taken me so long ive been ill :(
it would appear that georgie had dental problems due to a very poor diet leaving the teeth very soft and weak, he now has a variety of veg daily aswell as his dried food and plenty of hay :) i fed him on mashed pellets and liquidised veg untill his teeth were sorted and he is now eating everything on his own :) he has put on nearly 200 grams and his bones no longer stick out, he is also drinking on his own now and is a completely different little boy to the one that he was when he arrived, Georgie also now has company which has also perked him up :) he is such a gentle little boy and I'm so glad he ended up with me :)

georgie is a lovely little guy.

Its been great watching his progress with donna. He know has a tummy!

Well done mate :<>

Wonderful news, I am pleased he is doing so well! He's a credit to you and all your hard work and dedication to him. :)

Thats great news, well dont you! People like that woman should go to jail! We need better animal laws.

That's so great! Well done on you both!

I can't express my feelings towards people who do this to their pets without breaking the forum rules.

Well done Georgie and you!

Its unbelieveable what people do to animals, but believe me what goes around comes around.

At least he is with someone who knows how to give him the best.

xx

Good on you and georgie!

I hope he continues to put on weight and become the very happy piggie that he deserves to be.
You've done so well to get him on the road to recovery. You should feel very proud of yourself x:)

YAY. I have been wondering about Georgie and am pleased he's doing well!

Did you report the lady in the end?
