My guinea pig Graham (I have posted many questions concerning his painful pooing or weeing over the years) he is 4 years old now & still has bouts of squeaking when pooing more than urinating I think. He has been on the low calcium diet for years, has hardley any cold compressed pellets, has pro fibre pellets, has had 1 course of cartrophen and is on Tramadol & Gabapenthin. The vet said to stop Metacam (dog strength) as the cartrophen is like an anti inflammatory. Is this correct? I am thinking of booking him in for a 2nd course of cartrophen as nothing is helping still! Any suggestions please? I have Plantain for him & only a bit of dill, rosemary very occassionally, cucumber (loads), tiny bit of pepper, little bit of round floppy lettuce. He has been on Oxbow urinary support for years too but nothing seems to help him.

My Mya was the same so I started her on Cystease and it Seems to be doing the trick. It took a while but we haven’t had a bout of squeakiness for ages! It helps reduce irritation in the bladder I think. I’m sure someone else will be able to explain it better. It’s for cats and comes in capsules which I break and dissolve in water then syringe into her mouth (she likes it, which helps!) She has half a capsule a day, everyday and if she does start squeaking it’s upped to one capsule per day, which usually helps, but as I said, we have t had an episode in ages. You could speak to your vet about it - but it’s cheaper to buy on the pet medication websites.

Hi thank you for the response however Graham has been on Cystease for years with no help so thats why we went for the cartrophen injections as I think it is the same type of glucosomine anti inflammatory just stronger I think, but my vet has said to not use Meloxidyl or cystease anymore whilst he has had the injection?
