I felt so bad tonight 😖
I let my daughter's guinea pig out to get excercise and when I went to put my daughter to bed we couldn't find her! We searched and found her wedge between the dresser and wall in a space so small I still can't believe she was able to fit. I didn't think even her head would of fit in there. She wasn't making any noise and I started panicking thinking she had died. Not to mention the pile of 💩 behind her and pee. My daughter saw her move and I ripped that heavy dresser away as fast and as careful as I could and she seems ok but really eating her lettuce faster than I've ever seen her eat. That's how I found this site and joined I wanted to see if anything similar had happened to others. I found a few that helped comfort me. Just worried I stressed poor cupcake out. I feel horrible.😧 Thanks for the help everyone.

Sorry to read this. Poor little cupcake, first off she is eating and pooing and weeign that is a good sign. If she stops any of these you need to see a vet ASAP. Do you have any idea how long she was there for? Did she escape from cage or her run?

Poor thing! Mine only run around in a blocked off hallway where there is really nowhere to get stuck, but years ago I did have a hedgehog get stuck under a bookshelf. She squeezed underneath going forward and then couldn't back out because the spikes made her larger backing up than moving forward. I would just keep an eye on her to make sure that she is eating, moving, and behaving normally.

What s horrible experience for you all.
If you are concerned in any way then a vet check won’t go amiss but she may just be suffering from shock.
Make sure she has some peace and quiet as well as plenty of hay and water.

Please don't feel bad. Cupcake is okay , she is eating, pooping and weeing okay. These things happen. I have some old cake cooling trays cable tied together to block off gaps along with some spare C&C cage grids to block off doorways to keep my piggies in one room. Piggies are like small children, hard to keep a step ahead of sometimes!

@Mona82 Please don't feel bad. Things happen, and we can learn from it and stop it from happening again.

I've had piggies for over 20 years now and I think some people on the forum would probably say I'm pretty experienced, but even I had a nightmare with my first pig.

On the very first day, yes, the day I got him, he escaped into next doors garden and hid under this shed. We had to physically lift the shed to get him out. It took hours...

We all learn. :D

Please don't feel horrible or guilty! We have all made our own experiences as to what unexpected scrapes guinea pigs can get into - things you'd never imagine! Take a deep breath and work out a way to prevent a repeat.

You might like to look into foldable indoors rabbit or puppy runs, for instance. Piggies have an amazing knack to find every nook and cranny, cable or piece of plastic for you... ;)

Pet ownership like parenthood is a life-long learning curve. Even now, after decades of having piggies in my life, they can give my heart-stopping moments!

As long as you don't make the same mistake over and over again, you are doing fine. Life is not about never making a mistake; it is about learning from what is happening and about learning to pick yourself up again and turn it into something constructive when things do go wrong.

Not a guinea pig, but...
I got some new cats, and we let them go, just in the kitchen at first as that's a room we can shut off. Daisy was scared to death (of pretty much everything, as it turned out) and as soon as the carrybox was opened she was out and had wriggled under a cupboard - it was a TINY gap - and had wedged herself behind the oven. That was a nasty moment as we couldn't move the oven. We just had to wait until she came out, then block up the gap quickly.
I will forever be amazed at how small a gap is needed - how do they fit in?
I hope your piggy is OK after her experience, it is good that she's eating.

We’ve all had some sort of nightmare at times with piggies. You weren’t to blame. These things do happen. Now you know you can plan to block off any piggy hidey holes so this doesn’t happen again. Looks as though no harm was done, so please don’t beat yourself up about it.

It’s happened to us in the past, so please don’t beat yourself up. Just make sure any potential escape routes are piggy proof ;)

When I was 7 (a LONG time ago) we had One of our Guineas out in the hallway whilst me and my mum cleaned them out. I ran into the hallway to get something, didn’t see her and kicked her like a football across the hall. She flew about 3 feet! I was utterly inconsolable but she was fine! Sometimes things happen, I just made sure (even now) I never run about if piggies are lurking! Yours will be fine, they are tough little critters 😎😜

I feel your pain, I once booted Sundae. I was just walking through the hall and she (being blind) darted basically right in front of my foot and got tossed. It scared me, scared her, and I felt terrible, particularly since it took her about a week to forgive me and venture out into the hall again!

Yeah- when salty(rip) and pepper were babies, i had them in a closed cardboard box on one of the stairs(I admit not the best place!) and they suddenly started rolling down the stairs! I was terrified- but they were fine! Just a little confused 😂😂
