Bullseye

my little Sophie has the squits

i have changed the bedding, washed her gently and given here a big cuddle

what else can i do

i think she is getting too much soft greens
kids have been growing their own and as the piggies love it i think thay might be over feeding with it

the other 2 are fine

and i washed my hands inbetween handling them

Make sure that Sophie still gets plenty of water, as diarrhea dries out the body. You can also try cooled chamomile or fennel tea. Give by syringe. If you want, you can add some probiotic (available at pet at home or at the vets) to help build up the gut fauna.

If the diarrhea persists, you need to see the vet, as it could be something serious (in the worst case, they can die from it) or a virus, like with another member on here (pm Claire W).

will see how she is tonight and maybe have a go calmly when its quiet after the kids are in bed

Hi there :) Yes, VickyT is right. One of my girls Eliza has diarrhea at the minute too. It all started on Sunday evening. I have some grooming wipes from pets at home. They are just wet wipes but are safe for animals.
Eliza still had the diarrhea on Tuesday so I took her to the vets. She had an antibiotic injection and is on a course of 0.3ml of Baytil twice a day along will a probiotic. My vet thinks she has a tummy bug. You are best to use a probiotic as Sophie's tummy will probably be feeling delicate and the probiotic will help settle her.If she is not better by tomorrow, I would suggest taking her to the vets. If she gets messy then a bath won't do her any harm so long as you keep her warm. If she becomes puffed up and her eyes sink, it could be very serious and she should seek medical attention fast. Is the poo watery or soft and squidgy? It is the watery, smelly kind that can be serious. You may notice that Sophie may lose some weight but she should put this back on once she is feeling better. Eliza has sympathy for her xx

Cheers thats really helpful
will stop at P@H on my way home

Sophie has only been with me for a week so i am hoping its just the food intake she is getting

i have noticed that she has sticky eyes too - not very bad and not closed
just a bit of eye snot

both the others have had that and it cleared fast

as for the poo it was pretty smelly as i first noticed it on Sophies feet and then on my hand
was like paste rather than water

in the cage this morning was a small patch

but when i changed the bedding last night it was very very wet in one area
and i clean it out lots

its all nice and fresh and i will check as soon as i get in

thanks again

if she has only been with you a week it is most probably the veges, most piggies that are from petshops/breeders or anything similar arent fed veges so to have to many all at once can make them very ill,i would recommened like i said taking her of them and once the runs have stopped introducing one type of veg per day in very small amounts just so her body can get use to them xxxxxxxxxx

will take good care of here -posting her first pics shortly

imaging that - photo shoot when you dont feel well

Make sure to get fluids to her throughout today is my only tip - aside from that, I'm really no help. Sending good vibes. xx

she has a big water bottle with fresh water
so its available
is that enough

UNLESS you have seen Sophie use the bottle regularly today, don't assume that she'll drink!
Many young guinea pigs haven't figured out how to, yet. If you want to make sure a guinea pig gets something fluid down, always syringe it!

And grass, especially wet grass, is a NO NO! Sorry...

thats probably the cause as my new grass is very long and the piggies get out on it every day so eat loads
will keep Sophie off the grass for now - she is tucked up in the warm with dried feen pellets, hay and a bottle of fresh water, will be home shortly to check on her
and lavish some TLC upon her

Good news - Sophie is all better
stopping the veg did the trick

gave her a bath on saturday morning and she loved it

i really thought i would have to hold her but she was enjoyng splashing about

and the cuddle after was lovey

then basking in the sunshine

by saturday evening she was popcorning all over so i guess she feels better

OH great - she's obviously stolen your heart already (and knows it)!

Yeah thats all i need - another female in the house that can wrap me round her little finger
