Doing my weekly weigh/health check and found Jerry has dry skin on his ear. Since my vets are now shut till monday i read that a little olive oil can help so have put a tiny drop on (which he seemed to like). Doesnt seem ill. Not actually flaking but you can see its dry if you know what i mean.

His weight and Bens was good still gaining. bout 60g a week lol although he has always been smaller than ben.

Other than that they are great They bully the cats and the dog lol so hoping its nothing serious

Just wanting a little reassurance so i dont have a panic attack. Is this a normal thing do i need the vets or can i treat myself. Have some shampoo and not sure if i should bathe him or not or would this make it worse?

Sorry for my ramble but my pets are my babies :(

Hi, I am sure someone can give you a much better answer than me but I am sure it is nothing very serious and can wait until Monday should you feel you need to go to the vet. Like I say someone else will probably be able to tell you what to do for best but try not to worry.

Joy xx

checked again today and it looks scabby inside the ear with red patches thinking it must be mites or something so deffo going to ring up vets in the morning to see if i can get in at night.

Feel soo guilty thinking i must of done something wrong i mean they live indoors, cleaned 2-3 times a week. every week i groom trim nails if needed etc. How has this happened to him?

:(

ps. hes still fighting ben for food so hoping thats a good sign

vets verdict :O

vitamin c deficient.

i had ran out of veg the other day and could only pick up a bag of watercress and rocket and gave them this for 2 days unfortuantely it would seem this started it and even though i give them burgess she seems to think bens nicking most of it :(,

so pak choi & broc in high doses have been forced on the little lol. well not forced but gently persuaded with lol. ben as usual grabbing his share and legging it lol.

feel so stupid but so relieved its nothing more serious.

xx

That diagnosis does seem extreme as in the pellets there is vitamin c. After two days of not getting a varied diet they wouldn't show symptoms of scurvy.

Scurvy is usually a secondary problem as well, have a look here http://www.guinealynx.info/scurvy.html

Glad he is sorted. The Galens Garden Cream that Louise recommended is great to have in, and rub on dry patches etc. Really good stuff. xx

It's good stuff on the 8th Day God made Galen's Garden Green Cream! That's my motto.

Yeah the reason I questioned the diagnosis was because Cuzzy had this and he was lame, fur falling out all the classic symptoms. I didn't know at the time as I was new to pigs and it took 3 weeks to get in that sitution.

Sunshines problem was on the top of the ear. Tika rabbit has just had the same thing as well but she seems fine now thanks to the cream. :)
