poor jinx has a back paralysed leg

found him this morning stuck in one position , I lifted him up and found his left back leg is paralysed its still pink so is not anything else, I know it happens quite often but i really hate this as it makes them look so helpless, as I have a similar problem with my right arm I really feel sorry for him, he is being so spoilt and is eating almost non stop, he is actually lying on a towel on the living room floor eating watching only fool and horses with hubby and son Josh, suckers! caught them being worried, he is off to vet tomorrow for check up, is also on metcam just in case, but appears perfectly happy and otherwise healthy,

took 3 animals to vet this morning , Jinx is being left to see if its an injury that will mend with rest, have metcam if necessary , he is now lying in the sun in my conservatory, eating almost non stop being very spoilt, vet said he needs rest so have made him a mini run with cuddle cup etc,
Clara is still on baytril for a urinary infection she also has metcam, but if the baytril does'nt work its likely shes got a stone and at the moment shes too weak for anesthetic so have to build her up just in case, both clara and jinx are having warm baths to stimulate and freshen them up which seems to perk them both up,
max my darling mutt is on prednesalone he has a sensativity that has flared up, which possibly started after losing his brother Charlie and has escalated he needs to take 2 a day for 5 days then 1 a day hopefully it will break the cycle, he is also still on a light diet of fish chicken and rice,
think thats about it came away with loads of medications and syringes to fill my first aid box up he is such a nice vet
 
Aaah bless, it sounds as though they are all keeping you very busy, it must be like a vet hospital at the moment ::)
I hope they are all feeling better in time for Christmas :)

Awww poor little piggies. I hope they all get better before x-mas so they can open their pressies!
 
If its not an injury, give him calcium tablets. I once had a boar that suddenly went paralized in his back end and I gave him crushed calcium tablets twice a day and in a couple of days he'd made a full recovery and lived a long and happy life :)

I've got some calcium tablets but they are fluid type in a capsule would these help do you think, he seems brighter and seems happier to drag it around with him bless him, he is eating fine and getting about ok
 
just been out and brought lots of bits for piggys calcium plus vit d tablets that are chewable and are easily powdered down a drop of water and hey presto Jinx had the first of his doses of calcium hopefully it will help his leg, also brought some rescue remedy bottles to help clara as well,
 
Yeah, liquid calcium will work as well, you just need to get some calcium down them. It doesn't seem to bother them and they remain happy and continue eating :)

I have found that Osteocare is the very best for this :)
You can buy it in most chemists, we get our from Boots.

he is doing great still lame in the leg but he is eating and moving about great and loves being the centre of attention, I've got him in a small run in the conservatory with heating on he is on towels with cuddle cups etc and vet bed well packed out with hay food and veggies to eat, he has now had 2 lots of calcium and some rescue remedy as I noticed it had star of Bethlehem in it which Barbara recomended but i could'nt find, fingers crossed but he is living the life right now, his two run mates dipstick and galaxy are missing him
 
Jinx s leg is normal except its now losing tone if you know what I mean lack of use i expect, he is now in a run next to his old run mates totally ignoring their wheaks for his attention litle snob, he is now laying on towels instead of hay so I can monitor his dragging easier, he just lies there mouth full of hay head held high like a real snob, still dragging it I've got a feeling the calcium is not going to work, in all other ways he is perfectly normal, maybe he will be like this from now on, def not in pain so am not too worried will keep on with calcium tabs a little longer
 
Bless him, do you think it could be due to nerve damage Michelle? If so, time may heal it, or it might be a permanent thing.
If he were mine, I'd try a little gentle physio (You are probably already doing this!) Simply putting it through the full range of movement a few times a day, if he is happy for you to do this.

If he were a dog, I'd suggest hydrotherapy, but personally I wouldn't dream of putting a guinea pig in water to swim, though I know it has been advocated by some. Other people may think differently though, however I think it too stressful?

I know that it is probably nigh on impossible for you to see one, but a homeopathic vet might be able to advise?

I have been massaging his leg daily have noticed it seems more of a hip problem then leg, he has always walked with a funny gait his back legs splayed out (we spoke of this before a while ago) he has also had a few warm baths mainly to keep him clean although he is keeping himself very clean himself now, no I dont agree with "swimming pigs" as i was always warned not to get water in their lungs in case phnumonia develops, so mine always have waist deep water and an upturned plate to stand on but I do let him dangle on my hand ( holding his belly) any other suggestions to get my little boy mobile again, much appreciated, is the rescue remedy cream any use?
