She's been looking a bit down for the last few days so I popped her to the vets this afternoon, all set with urine sample in hand and it was confirmed she has another UTI. She's now on a 3 week course of septrin and meloxidyl to relieve pain. Hopefully, this will clear it for good this time. The vet suggested taking another urine sample in close to the end of the course to see if there is still blood present and if that's the case it will mean X-Rays to look for bladder stones (to which my mother said "Is it really worth it?" mallethead which has infuriated me a little! grrrr).

I think I trip to the shops for some Patrick juice is in order!

Oh poor thing. I am very sorry to hear she is unwell. I really hope she gets better soon.

Thank you :). I don't think she ever fully recovered from the last time, but I was able to catch on a bit earlier this time around so hopefully we can clear it all. She has moments when she's all chirpy and running around then the next minute she's huddled in a box looking sorry for herself :(. I'm keeping my fingers firmly crossed that it's not stones and is just the infection creeping back in.

I really hope it is not stones. Poor piggies are so prone to these nasty infections.

Hope she gets better soon

Hope it really clears this time around. Ignore your mum. We all know our piggies are worth it!

Thank you all! I hope she gets better soon too.

I know, I'm quite shocked at my mum's comment as she has always cared for the animals we have but, (like so many others) seems to think that small animals are insignificant and "not worth it". It angers me a little. I suppose she gets that from the farming background but even so...the cost of euthanasia can be pretty expensive and all and I would never choose that over a cure as long as the animal isn't suffering beyond reason.

At least there are some people around that care as much for their small animals as they do their dogs and cats!

Thanks :) She's still feeling a bit down at the moment, but hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon and she'll start feeling a bit better. Problem is, she takes all her meds reallay well...loves them, but trying to get probiotics into her is proving to be a bit more difficult than first thought, silly girl. Might have to make poop soup instead! Or try mixing it with some diluted cranberry juice or something.

That might be an easier way to do it. I have the Pro-C powder stuff from P@H which I sprinkle on a piece of pepper or something, but she picks around it rolleyes Got her to eat it ok today though :) but I might think about getting some fibreplex.

Well we've finished our 3 weeks supply of septrin...however poor Lex still isn't right. She seems fine at one moment, the next she's huddled up in her box all puffed up and sad :(. I'm going to give Simon at the cat and rabbit clinic a call next week to see if we can sort her out. I'm still giving her pain meds for now to make her more comfortable but she isn't very happy, bless her.

I definitely think it would be worth a trip to see Simon. Also if you come to see Simon, you must pop in to say hello to me and all the piggies x

Awww poor girl. Well worth a trip to Simon. Would suggest an xray to rule out stones if she hasn't had one.

Yes, I think an X-ray is the next step really. She's already been on 2 courses of antibiotics (both Baytril and Septrin) that haven't cleared it so our only option now is to rule out bladder stones. Hopefully we'll find it's just a stubborn infection, but I would feel a lot better seeing Simon over my normal vet. I never feel overly confident when I see my normal vets :{
Ooh, Debbie I'd love to pop in and see you and all the piggles. I know Simon has been away over the holidays, so I'll call once all the festivities are over and see if I can make an appointment. I'll let you know when I get one :)

Simon off tomorrow and then back as normal. Once you have made an appointment let me know and we can arrange to catch up. I really hope you can get this sorted soon. If it is a stone, Simon is so experienced at bladder stone removal. He removed a stone from one of Wiebke's piggies recently. xx
