I have been out to collect some rescues today and out of 3 Boars there was 1 merino and 2 black and ginger short hairs
the poor merino is supposed to be 4 years old :-\

anyway i thought great his coat is in good condition with no tats but on further inspection I found the following :o

Here he is :smitten:

Why does someone spend time looking after a coat yet cant check claws :tickedoff:
He is also struggling to eat hard veggies so taking him down to the vets in the AM :(
poor little fella should be enjoying what time he has left but ends up in Rescue :'(

he's gorgeous :smitten: at least now he will get the care he deserves.

AWwww poort piggy. I think Digby was kept the same way his claws had been trimmed at the rspca but the damage had already been done I have to trim them more than the others I just dont understand how people can let a piggy suffer like that his feet must have hurt to walk!

Grrrrrrrr. That makes me really mad :tickedoff:

Older boars are my favourite. They can be so rewarding - lovely, laid-back and affectionate, and past that showing-off feisty stage ;D I imagine he will make a really good friend for some lonely younger boar. Or will you be keeping them as a trio?

No they wont be staying as a Trio, the owner had already split one off from them because the 2 smooths are brothers and where fighting big time. The one that is alone has scars and scabs all over his back and is very nervous :'(
I have been watching the merino and other one and the other one is definatly being a bully :-\

Oh poor little boy, that must be so uncomfortable. I have a rescue boar whos toes are slightly deformed due to his claws being allowed to overgrow :'(

He looks exactly like my Thelma who i tought was a Texel, same colour and everything x

Lennies were a bit like that when I got him, not quite as bad though. Even though I keep them quite short now, the outer ones still curl round slightly....its so annoying that people cant be bothered, it only takes a couple of minutes to do >:(

well i have clipped his claws so he must be feeling better for that,Just hope that he hasnt got teeth problems now :-\

It makes me mad about the claws too, My boar Ralfie is from a rescue and his toes are bent in a funny shape because his nails had got so long before he was rescued, now however you cute them he still walks with his toes funny >:( he gets by though, the merino is so gorgeous :smitten: its so sad when people cnt look after pets >:(

oh you just want to give him a cuddle :smitten: and his last owner a good talking too :tickedoff:

Keeping everything crossed that his teeth are ok - poor little chap, he's a little stunner.

Texels dont have a crest where as merinos Do have a crest ;)

got a spare indoor cage spare you could borrow (only keeping it incase piggies unwell) - it used to have blossom in it if thats any help to you

Poor fella :-\ He has to walk around like that it must be soo painful for him :'(

owww! His poor little feet... and like you said - he cant even enjoy having a good old munch on some hard veggies :(

hope they all find a new home soon .... at least for now they'll get some TLC from you ;)

I had him out earlier and giving him a good look over now i have discovered that his bottom teeth are not long enough :-\
I dont know if they have been snapped at some time but when he has his mouth closed there is about a 1" gap between the top and bottom teeth :o
Hopefully once they grow back he will be able to eat better

Aw poor little fella, i suppose it's slightly better that they are too short rather than too long at least he won't be in pain with them and there's a chance they'll grow :-\

Oh Graham how awful, those mongrel people :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

His little feet must've been in agony and i'm surprised they didn't grow into the pads :o :o :o :'( :'( :'(

Sending healing wheeks for him, i hope his toofie problem sorts out in the next few days, i'm sure you'll be offering him lots of yummy tit bits to encourage him :smitten:

Well done mate, once again you guys who rescue have done a wonderful thing O0 O0 O0 O0

well he has been to the vets,I was a bit worried this morning as his droppings where a bit soft.
Anyway the vet thinks his teeth have been snapped off at some time but they seem to be coming back ok.
he has put him on metacam and also he has prescribed Pro-Kolin+ at the dose of 1ml 3 times a day for 24 - 48hrs.
I have given him some grated cucumber, carrot and also some chopped up curly Kale and he has ate a bit and i have discovered he likes bananas ::)
I am in 2 minds as to leave the 2 of them together or split them as he is afraid of the boar that he was with.every time the Boar goes near him rumbling he hides in the corner with his head inwards :-\

Aaaah grated cucumber. I bet he loves it!
I have posted a pic in the gallery so you can see how similar my Thelma is to the little lad!

Try strips of food Graham, they can usually take that quite easily and have to chew it on the back ones. Mr Melt had nails like that and couldn't walk properly for a few days but is OK now.
Good luck with him, I would find it hard to part with a Merino ::)

Thanks karen
I am just about to start his veggies so i will cut it into strips this time.
He is no longer loose so fingers crossed he is on the mend.
He isnt walking very much at all at the moment and yes i know I am going to find it hard to part with him as we already have a merino Boar of our own ::)
But someone has offered him a fantastic home even with any problems he may have so we will see

Ah that's great that someone wants to rehome him. He is a sweetheart. I don't know how people can be so cruel! When people question my devotion to my pigs I say I have a duty of care as a pet owner, we all do and we have to do our best. Granted if I was a Lotto winner my pigs would live like Royalty...haha but we all do our best, I hate it when people let them down, the poor little ones can't fend for themselves!

Good luck with him and keep us posted!

Louise
:)

:) Sounds like the probiotics are kicking in and with a decent diet and some time he'll probably be OK, sad people let this happen though :(

If all goes well for him and his toothie problems settle I can't wait to be his mummy and to be able to offer him a happy and loving retirement home were he can live out his the final years of his life looking forward to meeting you soon big man there'll be a bunch of bananas waiting for you when you get here Can't wait to be your new mum!

congratulations on finding him a new home and congrats on adopting him, glad he'll have the life he deserves!
