Poor Panda

Panda has had a chest infection that has been hanging around for some time. 2 long courses of baytril and 2 lots of septrin still hasn't shifted it. She is now off the antibiotics and for the past 2 weeks there hasnt been any worsening of the conditions. Today she went to the vets and she's been put on 1/2 a prednisolone tablet daily. She was very good about taking this. We put her back on the vetbed and noticed a spot of blood. It now looks like she has a uti. Fortunately we have some baytril left so she's had a dose of that. Off to the vets again on friday. Poor old Panda.

Poor Panda and poor you! As the symptoms have been going on for some time and not responded to ABs, it may be worth investigating other possible causes, have her heart/lungs been x-rayed/scanned before? As there are conditions that can also be the cause of URI-like symptoms.

I think that the x-ray etc are on the list of things to do but because of Panda's age (4 1/2) the vet wants to try other treatments first. My daughter took her today but I'll be going on friday and have a 'proper' talk with him. We moved the girls from shavings back to fleece as an allergy was mentioned as a possible cause also asthma was mentioned.

It was wise to stop using shavings. I am so sorry to hear how poorly little Panda is.

Quick update on Panda - Good news from the vets, a minor bladder infection she's having baytril for that and it seems that the steroids are working on her chest infection. Her breathing has slightly improved. I'm not sure if it is just the steroids working or that they in addition to the baytril are now having a positive effect on her illness.
